Customer review: We bought a recently built home from its original owners a few years ago. After living there for a year, we started to notice some water damage to the outside of our house. To make a long story short, the builders did not build part of the roof properly so water had been seeping in for close to 5 years, rotting out the wood framework. We ended up having to replace part of the roof and the whole side of the house because of this.
Our first lawyer made it seem that he would fight hard for us, said everything we wanted to here and told us that we should be able to win easily. He told us our best option was to sue the builder, wait for them to come back with a settlement offer, and negotiate from there.
Needless to say, 1 year later, we fired him and found David.
Right from the start, David told us that since we weren't the original homeowners and did not have any claim to the warranty (according to Washington state law at that time), it was going to be a hard battle and sueing the builder probably wouldn't work. We'd be extremely lucky to even get a dime out of them.
David contacted the builder at once, presented all of the background information we had gathered and asked them send someone out from their company to assess the damages (on their dime). He even offered to opt out of showing up for the assessment since he didn't want to waste our money (and he really didn't need to be there).
Cut to the chase...
David negotiated with the builder and told us that they were willing to pay for all of the repairs. We gave David an estimate on what it would cost, and they paid for it. We had the check in about a week. No trial. No headache. No time wasted. We never even had to make a trip back to David's office.
The bottom line (and this is coming from someone who believes that making a mistake is ok, as long as you own up to it and then fix it) is that David is a fantastic lawyer. Unlike other lawyers we've dealt with in the past, David:
1. Really listens to his clients and offers them suggestions and alternatives, without ever making them feel as though they "have to" do something.
2. Plain and simple: he is practical. If he doesn't have to charge the client for something, he won't.
3. If he does, you feel as though your getting (every cent of) your money's worth.
4. Straightforward and honest. If the client asks, he tells it like it is and doesn't avoid or circumvent the truth.
5. He's a down-to-earth, reasonable guy who is looking out for the client's best interests rather than how big his wallet is.
6. Well versed in the law as well as the city. He knows his stuff: who to call and how to get things done.
If David were to specialize in all types of law, we would never have to look for another lawyer ever again. Keep searching all you want, you won't find anyone that even comes close.
