About Me

Jackson Howa

Jackson lives in Southwest Portland, Oregon with his husband, Jacob, and two dogs, Rocky and Troy. Jackson spent his youth in Utah and Arizona, obtaining his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History from the University of Arizona in Tucson. He relocated to Portland to study at Lewis & Clark Law School, graduating with honors in the top third of his class. Jackson received recognition for his research and writing skills while at Lewis & Clark and was selected as a teaching assistant in Legal Analysis and Writing. As president of the Lewis & Clark Law School’s LGBT student group, Jackson established the law school’s first committee dedicated to improving treatment and recognition of transgender students.

Community Outreach

Jackson is dedicated to improving his community. He participates in the Children’s Representation Project, serving as appointed independent counsel for children in contested divorce cases. Jackson also helps educate high school students about the law and the legal profession through his participation in the Imprint Program and teaches an “Equal Rights and Sexual Orientation” workshop to high school students as part of the Classroom Law Project.

In addition to his service to youth, Jackson volunteers at the Oregon Food Bank whenever he can and contributes to local LGBT rights groups, including Basic Rights Oregon and The Q Center.

Hobbies and Interests

Jackson enjoys bicycling and hiking during Oregon’s beautiful summers, but sticks to a wide range of board games and video games with friends during the drizzly winter. He loves to cook, often experimenting with regional and ethnic food and drink. When in need of escape, Jackson enjoys reading science fiction, fantasy, and nonfiction books of all types. Jackson constantly tries to improve his skill level in Esperanto, a constructed language intended to  facilitate international communication. Jackson has used Esperanto to meet and communicate with dozens of people across the globe and to learn about foreign cultures.
