About Me

John Y.U. Choi graduated from the University of California at Irvine with the distinguished honor of "Order of Omega". After college, John taught at the Princeton Review where he was awarded  "Teacher of the Year". After Princeton Review, John attended the No. 1 Environmental Law school in the United States, Vermont Law. While at Vermont Law School, John wrote for the Vermont Bar Journal and founded an Asian Pacific American Law Students Association chapter.

After graduation, John worked as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Hawaii. While a government lawyer, John litigated many cases and had three cases that were appealed to the Hawaii Supreme Court. John won all three of his Hawaii Supreme Court cases. One of John's Supreme Court case was published and highlighted the importance of the separation of powers doctrine arising from the three branches of government, the executive branch, the judicial branch, and the legislative branch. The foundation of the doctrine is found in our Constitution, as is your right to a jury trial.

John's philosophy is to take at least one case to jury trial each year.

When not litigating, John enjoys spending time with his wife and two children at the beach or on the golf course. On Sundays, he and his family can be found at Word of Life Christian Center. John's sense of family comes from his parents who taught John and his two sisters the meaning of excellence and dedication. His father is a retired engineer/entrepreneur and his mother is a retired pharmacist. John's older sister is a surgeon in Santa Barbara, and his younger sister is a product designer/entrepreneur in San Francisco. John's parents love to play golf or spend time with their seven grandchildren.

With support from his family, John has been able to give back to the community by serving as a chapter president for the Hawaii Junior Chamber of Commerce (2009) and the Christian Legal Society of Hawaii (2010). He is also a member at the Beneficial Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge 616 and West Honolulu Rotary Club. John currently serves as a Board Member for the Hawaii Association for Justice and the Christian Legal Society. John loves to learn and graduated from the prestigious Gerry Spence Trial Lawyer's College in 2011.
