Mr. Cohn was extremely knowledgeable of the law. In my initial consoltation, he told me the procedures of a claim and what to expect. He was very understanding and obviously handled many cases like mine, because he knew right away what my concerns were. Having his presence gave me hope and peace of mind. He fought against a large corporation and won. I can't thank him enough. He worth every penny.

I was harassed by a co-worker that constantly questioned my ethnic background, verbally scorned and yelled at me multiple times in the work place and in front of other co-workers and on-site customer. I had another co-worker that also yelled, physically challenged, and directed a racial slur towards me and fellow co-worker. My on-site customer verbally abused, intimated, and made not-so funny jokes/derogatory statements about races, colors, and creeds. On one occasion, I was physically pushed by the customer; once I indicated direct disapproval, the customer/individual became contemptuous and retaliated by slandering my name to upper management. I also witnessed my general manager undergo vulgar verbal abuse and intimidation by the on-site customer. I reported the incidents to my direct supervisor, during team meetings, other management personnel, and all seemed to go unnoticed by my direct supervisor. I made a multitude of attempts to resolve issues. Finally, it dawned on me that all the parties involved in the incidents were actually close acquaintances, the “CLICK.” So, I decided to report the incidents to HR. Once I reported the incidents to HR my direct supervisor immediately tried to retaliate against me and even made physical gesture as if he wanted to back-hand me. I could not tolerate any more injustices; a hostile, discriminatory, social-prejudice work environment... It seemed as if HR was trying to brush it all under the rug. So, I decided to call a lawyer. Mr. Cohn restored my hope and helped me fight the injustices I was subjected to in my work environment. We all deserve an equal opportunity!

There is nothing worse than trying to go to work 9 hours a day in a small busy office and suffer in silence while your co-worker abuses you verbally, and physically. This lady was smart. She would wait months just to get the right opportunity. This went on for 6 years. My employer, a South Bay City wouldn’t take me seriously because although there were complaints from others besides me, she was a good employee in their eyes and knew how to work the system. She could be witty and well liked by the people who didn’t know her other side. She was all about being better than everyone else. No one ever saw anything (no witnesses) that is what the City said. She would verbally abuse me when no one else could hear, hit me with her shoulder almost knocking me down, walk past me in an isolated area, scream in my ear, and keep walking like nothing happened. It was all so juvenile, but frustratingly painful. In late 2010 I suffered depression and went out on Leave for 3 months cleaning out my savings, which resulted in losing my home. While I was out on leave she hit another woman in my office, and again the City did nothing. I hired Steve Cohn in early 2011. I needed to know what Civil Rights I had because I really couldn’t take anymore. He was very clear concise and knowledgeable. I knew at that moment that he really knew his stuff. He told me then that this woman would hit me again; he was right.
In December 2011, five days before Christmas I stepped into an open doorway to let her pass in a narrow hall. She slipped in to the doorway and flipped her shoulder hard into mine, then scoffed and walked off. I was carrying an 8 lb. pitcher of water. I ended up with a City doctor who said I had a sprained shoulder and contusions. Once again, my employer said they couldn’t do anything because no one had witnessed it. When I realized they weren’t going to do anything even though I was in a brace, and packed in ice at work for my shoulder injury, I went to the Police Department to file a report. Soon after, I took my years of documentation (the smartest thing I EVER did) and filed for a restraining order.
Mr. Cohn is very good at knowing what is important and relevant and what isn’t and could put me at ease. He would tell me why it wasn’t important. I like knowing the why. We went to court multiple times with various motions from both sides. She replaced her original female attorney with two male attorneys, and brought in everyone you could imagine from work that she got along with for witnesses of her good nature. I had two people, the other lady she had hit, and one male that she verbally abused for years before I ever started working there.
I wasn’t sure how my case would work out, but I was determined to have someone else hear what the City wouldn’t. The City denied my safety over and over again. Steve was there to help see to it that it didn’t happen again. The evidence had to be clear and convincing, yet remember, there were no witnesses. Steve was impressive along with his paralegal Whitney Law. Together they were working hard for me trying to get me the justice I deserved. When my abuser took the stand, she was stoic, very controlled, and emotionless. Steve knew she was being very careful how she was portraying herself. He knew exactly how to crack her, so her true self came out. He did it with precision and expertise. He wrapped her in a web of her own lies and it flustered her to the point that she was confused, and got angry. He showed everyone just how special and talented he is in the courtroom. Her two attorneys’ couldn’t keep up with my one. Steve won my case and got me the protection and peace of mind that I so desperately had been wanting for years.
I’ve heard it said, “Who needs two lawyers?” “All you need is one good one!” That’s Steve Cohn. If you are looking for someone who’s knowledgeable and gives great representation in court, you won’t be sorry. Steve is awesome!

I was looking for some legal representation and got turned down by a couple of lawyers, I came across Atty Cohn's website and called him since he is offering free legal advice. After hearing my situation, he accepted my case without hesitation.
I speak english as a second language and thats not a problem at all because he took his time to listen to me. He explore options and explains every strategy in a way that everybody understands. He put a lot of time in preperation of my hearings. Overall, He is very knowledgable, very true and very transparent on his every approach. I am proud to be well represented.

On three days notice, Steven Cohn represented me in my labor hearing. He is not only VERY knowledgeable about California labor laws he is also extremely comforting. His confidence was calming. I must also say it was super fun to watch Mr. Cohn make my former employer squirm. I will revisit and let you know how we made out. Regardless of the outcome, I am 100% satisfied with my legal representation.

Mr. Cohn gave me an appointment immediately to hear my fear that people in my office were using intimidation and micro management to cause conflict in my mind which created a stressful working environment and causing harmful health situation. Mr. Cohn assessed the situation, advised me, helped to calm me down and gave me a voice. Bringing this situation to top management has helped immensely. I can't thank Mr. Cohn enough.

If you are in need of an employment attorney, look no further. Mr. Cohn will put you at ease and help you through all phases of your case. He will take the reins and keep you informed as to what he needs from you and where your case stands. Needing an attorney in your life ususally means you are going through a very stressful situation. Mr. Cohn's calming demeanor and obvious extensive legal knowledge is comforting. From the very beginning, Mr. Cohn was mindful of my finances and bringing my case to the most ideal ending for me as soon as possible. His legal assistant, Whitney is outstanding. She is also very knowledgeable, proficient and effecient in her job. I am extremely grateful for everthing Mr. Cohn and his staff have done for me. He is a fine example of what you hope for when hiring an attorney. I hope to never need his expertise again, but I will not call anywhere else if ever I need an employement attorney again. Thank you Mr. Cohn.

When I met with Steven, he was charming and entertaining, definitely a big personality. I only wished he stayed more to the point instead of talking about his family and his accomplishments so much. I did not care much for that, specially if I am paying hundreds of dollars by the hour for his time. If he takes your case, then I think you can count on a solid lawyer representing you, but I got the feeling majority of the cases he takes include big recovery. I wished I gained some insight about my case for the money I spent for his time, but I did not feel that was the case. I mostly sat there and listened about his family. My advice is to keep him from sidetracking about his family, otherwise he is old school and I believe a good lawyer (and from what I heard, a great family man).

Mr. Cohn really understood the HR process and was able to promptly and effectively stop adverse actions designed to fire me from a major Tech Employer.
He was timely, a great writer and his strategy worked wonderfully. I was taken off a performance plan within a week and both my managers came forward to encourage me and now I am now again secure.
Mr Cohn changed everything and has reduced steepness and the work problems. He is very very good at this. “Best in Classâ€.

I retained Mr. Cohn to respond to my employer, who was quickly moving towards terminating me for whistle-blowing activity.
I had never been engaged in any legal disputes, and I was totally overwhelmed with what was unfolding. Steven responded with a sense of urgency, meeting with me on short notice. He was able to quickly understand the facts, drafting multiple letters to my employer resulting in them backing off completely.
I continue to be employed and my ability to act as a manger in a healthy environment has been restored.
On top of a being a fantastic lawyer with an impressive track record of success, Steven is a compassionate individual who showed genuine care and concern for what I was going through.
As a result, a negative situation has turned out to be an empowering positive learning experience with the best possible outcome I could have hoped for.

Mr. Cohn helped me a great deal. There is nothing negative to say. Not only is he an expert in his field with many years of experience, but truly a nice guy, personable, honest and trustworthy, and you are put at ease instantly after meeting him, because he understands that you might be going through quite a bit before having to see him. You get the sense he truly cares about you and your case and wants to help. He is very motivated and determined to fight for you, has great insight into issues and characters without much information to go by. He helped me a great deal and worth every penny of his fee which is not as expensive as others I have called. You will not be disappointed. Two thumbs up!

I retained Mr. Cohn in a contract dispute. He was readily available and answered all my questions promptly. He is extremely personable and very bright. My case had to be tried. Mr. Cohn was recommended to me by another satisfied client. i am extremely happy with the trial outcome and found Mr. Cohn not only to be a superb trial attorney but also he and his staff made me feel that they truly cared about my self esteem and my strategy for going forward after the trial. They cared about me as a person. This is an excellent attorney with a unique set of skills.

Mr. Cohn and his staff helped me during one of the most difficult government layoff times. Mr Cohn, along with his staff were professional and supportive throughout the entire process. My phone calls were answered and returned promptly (usually in the same day) and I was always provided an update. His expert advice and legal skills not only helped me retain my government job, but he was insturmental in securing me a senior position which came with a raise. Mr. Cohn and his staff are experts in what they do, the services they provide and the manner in which they provide them.

I was wrongfully terminated by a local community college. During this process I was even told by a union field rep that my case was going to be difficult to prove and win to settle & take the offer that the college was offering me! I was devasted that not even a union which I paid 18 yrs of dues was telling me this. I released the union rep. I hired Steven Paul Cohn. All those classified & certificated employees & those who work for an educational system that stated that I was waisting my money that all attorneys work for the unions & that there is no hope in getting fair justice served on ones behalf. Well I am here to state Steven Paul Cohn is a true fighter for justice and is highly experienced & knowledgeable for all related employment matters that seem impossible to you but hire Steven and he will turn that situation possible. I will continue to recommend Steven Paul Cohn.
Thank you so much and God bless you with your talent as an attorney!

My life and livelihood was devastated by my former Nurse Manager in Santa Clara County Hospital. I've been through a lot when she fired me, and she lied a lot against me. And to me “I would not be treated differently at work because of my ethnicity and my capabilities”. If you are reading this, chances are you need a great attorney during a hard time…Mr. Steven Paul Cohn is that and more. He’s knowledgeable, efficient, extremely responsive and kind/honest person. "What impressed me about Mr. Steven Paul Cohn was that when I first met with him, he really listened and was very understanding. He didn't use lawyer jargon and he explained the process step by step. He understood that for me it was the principle. His opening and closing statement blew the other lawyers away." And that’s the happiest moment of my life when I got the case. Thanks for all your help, and especially for your timely and quick responses when I was first faced with this situation.

After visiting several other lawyers and wasting thousands of dollars a friend of mine refereed me to Mr. Cohn. What other lawyers said I could not afford or could not be done Mr. Cohn did effortlessly. I truly believe he has gift and he knows how to use it. When everything was over me and my wife sat in office and cried. Mr. Cohn put a bully in his place and saved us tens of thousands when others couldn't.

I highly recommend Attorney Steven Cohn.
I recently hired Mr. Cohn again in 2009 because he did such a great job for me in an earlier case, and he has earned an A+ rating from me both times. The first case convinced me to always call on Mr. Cohn for employment issues in the future.
When things initially started getting fishy at that first job, Mr. Cohn advised me how to handle my situation without needing to have an attorney contact the company. His advice worked, and in fact allowed me to be able to stay employed there for another year. That alone was invaluable.
Then, about a year later at that company, it was clear that new management was trying to push people out. It was a small company, and the work environment became more and more hostile: 4 people had nervous breakdowns and at least 2 people quit without having other jobs. (I gave Mr. Cohn’s name to people as I found out about their situations, but I don’t know if they ever contacted him.)
In the meantime, because I had contacted Mr. Cohn right away for guidance, and then did everything he advised me to do, I was able to get out cleanly with an excellent severance package that he negotiated for me.
Steven Cohn treats everything seriously, he never misses a fact, he knows exactly what he’s talking about, he provides expert advice, and he cares. Most importantly, his calm, business-less approach to each case helps his clients to cope, while he deals with the difficult negotiations with the employer.
My advice is to hire Mr. Cohn, and to hire him before you lose the job!

I would highly recommend Mr Cohn. I worked with him on my case for a couple of years and he was wonderful! He was referred to me by someone who won their case with him as their attorney in a very sizable employment law suit. Not only was he very responsive, knowledgeable and trustworthy...he really cared and handled all the stressful and negative situations that came my way by my ex- employer. In addition,I had a few people in Federal Court system that shared their high regards for him as an attorney. I would highly recommend Mr. Cohn as he handle my case wonderfully!

I can only say great things about Mr. Cohn; I have appreciated his services not once, but twice.
Two of my ex-employer lay me off; both of them treated me unfairly. With the help of Mr. Cohn
I have received a fair compensation, Mr. Cohn and his staff have always being courteous to me
and treated me with a foremost respect.
I have been more then satisfied with the outcome of both of my cases.
Mr. Cohn is an Excellent San Jose Employment Attorney

Mr. Steven Cohn is the attorney you want representing you for employment matters. Mr. Cohn provided me with timely feedback and solid representation. He is a polite and compassionate man.
Mr. Cohn battled a South Bay government agency on my behalf. I sought Mr. Cohn for my personal injury case and he successfully negotiated my swift return to work. It is through Mr. Cohn's commitment to me and his work, that brought my positive results in the case. Thank you Mr. Cohn!

When I first spoke to Steven Cohn, I was at ease knowing that I could trust someone to take on my case. It’s great to know that I can call Steven and he will give me a call back as soon as he is available. In my type of case, I became worrisome over the decisions the court will make. Steven helped me overcome that worry by reassuring me that he is on my side and that everything is going to be okay. Not only is Steven great in the courtroom, he is also great at making his clients feel taken care of. I feel that I greatly benefited from him in my case as well as in my personal life. He definitely helped to obtain my self esteem back so I could look forward to a new life after my case. As far as the cost, he is very reasonable and I have to say that his services and help surpass the cost of both. Great quality client services as a lawyer and great emotional support just like a friend. Steven Cohn was always by my side to fight for my justice.

Like my title says, if you need help with any employment related matter, look no further. My experience with Mr. Cohn was really a great one. I was totally satisfied in every which way. He is very knowledgeable, very polite, good personality and fun. He listens to you very intently, uninterruptedly, takes notes, prepares and presents his case in such a manner that guarantees success.
My ex-employer tried to lay me off siting untrue reasons. I sent them several emails along with information that showed that I was being laid off unfairly. They did not respond in a positive manner.
Thanks to my good stars, I found Mr. Cohn. When I told him over the phone what had happened, he immediately asked me to set up a meeting with him with the help of his assistant, Whitney, who is very nice and responsible.
At my very first meeting with Mr. Cohn, I felt that I was in good hands. He heard all I had to say very patiently, looked at all the information that I had to show and said he would help me. He was very realistic with his fees, too. He made a calculated estimate of the time he may have to spend on my case and offered to take care at very reasonable charge.
He was able to convince my ex-employers that they had erred and was able to get me a very decent compensation. To make a long thing short, a great lawyer to retain, to help you take care of your matter.

After obtaining an insurance settlement related to a traffic accident I asked Steven to negotiate a subrogation claim from an agency representing my primary medical provider. This was a challenging task because I had already legally accepted the offer from the insurer who represented the client who caused the accident. After a few weeks of negotiations Steve was able to reduce the subrogation claim by one third. I went to Steven because I had no idea how to approach the matter and felt that I was being bullied by the agency representing my medical provider. Steven handled this matter extremely well and only charged me for the time involved to handle the matter.

Mr. Cohn provided timely and insightful representation. My case had to go to trial, where Mr. Cohn provided top notch trial ability, defeating a very large bank employer with unlimited attorney resources. We won my case soundly and I recieved full payout of my demand. Mr. Cohn' fees were affordable. I was kept informed by the firm's staff and Mr. Cohn personally, and Mr. Cohn was highly recommended to me as well. I can see why. I highly recommend Mr. Cohn.

Steven P Cohn is a knowledgeable attorney specialized on helping employees in lawsuits against employers. Although his advertised hourly retainer seems reasonable and tempting, he takes too many cases simultaneously and cannot afford special attention to individual cases. Because of his extremely overload, Cohn fails to keep clients informed and often delivers subpar results in an unprofessional manner.
During the initial consultation, Steven Cohn took many unannounced interruptions to talk with a building contractor, who was also in the office surveying the building. Cohn also took telephone calls during the initial consultation. After the consultation, Cohn told me that the initial consultation would be applied to the retainer agreement.
Steven Cohn agreed to a modified retainer agreement and in fact cashed the retainer check. Yet he did not start work until over a full month after cashing the retainer check. Cohn chose his own hours for office appoint but repeatedly canceled his appointments with less than half hour notice.
Publicly Cohn required clients to cancel 24-hours in advance or pay a penalty. But when Cohn cancels on clients, he makes no apologies. After repeatedly delaying my case by over a month, Cohn made excuses and promptly withdrew from my case. Cohn claimed that I willingly forced him to resign and refuse to refund fees in full. I am still trying to get a refund from this unprofessional lawyer.
Lawyer’s Comment:
This is a four-year old concluded dispute with a consult client who has misrepresented virtually every fact claimed. Mr. Cohn promptly resigned at 30 days into the case due to an inability to communicate with this hostile client. Mr. Cohn immediately voluntarily offered and issued this client a full refund. Two and a half years later, after the client filed a claim against the next attorney who tried to help him, and with no further contact with our office, the client filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau seeking our refund, which had already been voluntarily provided at the time that Mr. Cohn declined the case. The BBB promptly held in Attorney Cohn's favor, followed immediately thereafter by this client's Avvo posting.
We have represented over 6000 individuals over a 30-year career. You can't please all of the people all of the time but we should be able to expect that, when Mr. Kyung was found to be wrong, he will not slander us to the public simply because we declined to represent him. This is a 3 year old concluded dispute with a former client who has misrepresented this review, starting with its age and on virtually every "fact" claimed. The attorney promptly resigned at 30 days into the case due to an inability to reasonably communicate with the client.
Attorney Cohn immediately voluntarily offered and issued a full refund. Despite this, 2 1/2 years later, and with no further client contact, the ex client filed a claim with the Better Business Bureau, which promptly held in Attorney Cohn's favor just prior to this client's review posting, finding that the firm had acted appropriately and promptly. We have represented over 5000 individuals over 30 years. As they say, you can't please all the people all the time, (but we should be able to expect that, after the client was found to be wrong, he won't turn to defamation out of misplaced malice simply because we declined to represent him in the case.)
