Tom Wallerstein is a well-known Bay Area commercial litigator and partner in Venable’s Litigation Group with nearly 15 years of private practice experience. He focuses his practice on high-stakes complex commercial, class action and intellectual property litigation.
Prior to joining Venable, Mr. Wallerstein was a founding partner of a Silicon Valley litigation boutique. His practice focused on defending against consumer class actions, products liability and mass torts, employment and trade secret litigation and general complex commercial matters.
Mr. Wallerstein began his career in Philadelphia working on a wide variety of high-profile litigation matters, including representing two Philadelphia mayors and trying a federal jury trial. He later joined a global litigation firm where he gained effusive praise for his courtroom skills, and generally served as the lead associate on a variety of cases where the amount at stake reached into the tens of millions of dollars.
A 1999 cum laude graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where he served as the Executive Articles Editor of the Journal of Constitutional Law, Mr. Wallerstein was a finalist in the school’s moot court competition, resulting in an oral argument before U.S. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito (then on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals), Ninth Circuit Judge A. Wallace Tashima, and New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Deborah Poritz. Based on his performance, Mr. Wallerstein was invited to serve as the first judicial law clerk for Justice Peter G. Verniero of the New Jersey Supreme Court.
