Divorce/Family Law is a very difficult specialty that involves a very high level of turmoil and gamesmanship due to the rawness of the emotions involved. I do the very best that I can in every case to reduce the level of animosity between the parties in an effort to lessen the fees that will be incurred and do the least amount of damage to the parties’ ability to co-parent their children. However, everybody grieves the loss of his or her relationship differently and there is no guarantee my efforts will be successful especially when there are extraneous factors involved such as substance abuse, emotional illness, and/or litigious opposing counsel. I am often forced into a conflict with the other party when these factors become an impediment to resolving the case. Clients can even become disenchanted due to the same factors and the costs involved. Family law cases are incredibly personal and there is no way to escape stepping on some toes, especially when you have been practicing law as long as I have.
