Was it a DUI or similar? If so, there may be a dmv record separate from the criminal conviction.

  • Is it illegal to tip a public defender to get them to work more diligently on your case?

I know public defenders are paid by the state but can you gift them money after each hearing to make them work harder on your case?

    Greg’s Answer

Illegal? No. It would be unethical, however, for them to accept, and most would be insulted by your assumption that they needed to be bribed to do their job.

    Greg’s Answer

I don't mean this answer at all in a joking or dismissive way, but your question is WAY beyond the scope of this forum. It's like asking a cardiologist "what do I do about a blocked artery?" The answer is going to be "you come in to my office, I get more info, and then I do a list of technical things to save your life that is too long and complicated to explain to you in an email."

  • On an all felony case for 5 counts of poss/controlled substance 5 for poss/controlled substance f/sale 5 counts of transport

And 1count for gang inhancemen. They say they have audio n video of the transaction with me and the csi. So I wanted to know if I have my first court date on May 5. how early can I get the discovery. So I can get well prepared for my case. Thanks

    Greg’s Answer

Depends on the prosecutor's office and the police agency. Technically once your lawyers makes a demand they are supposed to turn it over within ten days, but it often takes weeks longer and courts let them get away with it. Of course I am assuming you are not actually trying to pro per litigate a strike offense and you do HAVE an attorney and you want THEM to be prepared for your case. You really have no chance of doing this correctly on your own. It would be like performing amature surgery. Life threatening surgery.

  • Shoplifted a cart full of goods at vons and they got my license plate number. what will happen?

i have been stupidly shoplifting cartful of goods from my local vons these past 2 weeks and today as i was about to drive off in my moms car (im a minor) i noticd one of the workers staring at me and recording my license plate number. the vehicle ...

    Greg’s Answer

Oh you'll be on film if the store isn't a third rate mom-and-pop outfit. The police will question your mom about who you are and if you had permission to be using her car. She can stonewall them (refuse to answer any questions at all (at all means even her name), and the police probably couldn't do anything to her. They might, however, find you other ways, such as if you have a license to drive listing her address... You may want to talk to someone in person about this.

  • What can I get punished with

I recently got a citation for criminal threats and its a felony. I'm 17 in Cali and I have to go to juvenile court and this is the first time I had ever gotten in trouble ever in my life time. I didn't mean the threats at all I just said that so ...

    Greg’s Answer

Considering this is the first time you have been arrested it seems unlikely they will put you in custody unless the threat was very real and very specify. Talk yo the public defender and don't admit anything to anyone else, especially the police or probation officers. If that has already happened, again talk up the public defender.

  • My friend had to pay restitution on a crime, but did not pay. Will they be subject to the original jail time or just the FTP?

these are the minutes on the case. Defendant requests immediate sentence. No legal cause why sentence should not now be pronounced. Probation is denied and sentence is imposed as follows: (SENT) For The Charge(s) 1 2 3 4 5. Sentenced to River...

    Greg’s Answer

Failing to pay a restitution fine may result in:

    1. A violation of probation if it can be proven that he has the ability to pay.
    2. Suspension of his license to drive regardless of his ability to pay.
3.Garnishment of wages or tax refunds if the State gets really angry.
