Douglas Charles Michie

About me

Doug Michie brings a depth of experience and education to his role as your lawyer.  Doug began his work life when he entered the military at age 17 during the Vietnam conflict.  After his honorable discharge from active duty, he began college on the GI bill, graduating from U.C. Davis with a B.S. in biochemistry in June 1978.

Doug was then accepted into the rigorous law program at Pepperdine University. There he received his J.D., cum laude, in December 1980.  He pased the bar exam on his first attempt and he immediately began a legal career which included serving as an in house counsel for Travelers Insurance Company, serving as a deputy district attorney for the County of Los Angeles, and ultimately the establishment of his law firm, the Michie Law Firm, in March 1988.

He has been a licensed real estate broker since 1988 and has earned the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation.

Recognizing the need for more diverse knowledge, Doug began a full time master degree program at Columbia University in New York in September 2000.  He completed the program nine months later in May, 2001, earning his MS in real estate development.  This was followed 16 months later at Texas A&M University where he earned his PhD in urban & regional science in August, 2002.  Meanwhile, in July 2002, he entered the highly rated Executive MBA program at the elite business school IMD in Lausanne, Switzerland, receiving his MBA in November 2003.

In 2006, Doug also obtained his Certified Financial planner® ( CFP®) designation.  Suze Orman astutely reminds investors in her advice on choosing a financial advisor: "An adviser should be a Certified Financial Planner, or CFP® Professional, just as I am. That means that he or she cares enough about his or her clients to have gone through a two-year certification process, with continuing education requirements mandating that he or she stay up-to-date on the kinds of information that you need."

Doug resides in the Oxnard Plain with his wife and children, where he is active in AYSO sports, serving as a , U8 referee and coach, U10 referee and coach and U12 coach during past seasons.  He has served on the site council of Pierpont Elementary School and has been a member of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce.  He is on the Board of Directors of the Capistrano Surfside Inn Timeshare Owners Association.  He also served in the National Guard for over twenty years, ultimately becoming a Captain of Infantry in the Army National Guard.
