I am a fantastic attorney. My rating is misleading. I was disciplined by the state bar. However the circumstances were exigent and I had to choose between a client’s urgent needs or my possible discipline. In 2004 I submitted my proof of my continuing education to the State Bar. Before I received confirmation that they had approved my proof, I was notified that there was an emergency Summary Judgment hearing in my firm the next morning. I was the only attorney could make the appearance. I appeared and prevailed in the case. The opposing counsel reported me to the State Bar for appearing in court before my continuing education was approved. They were approved a day after the hearing. Never-the-less, two-years after the incident, in 2006, I was suspended for 30-Days.
I have a great family with a wife and three kids. I have law offices in Newport Beach and Salt Lake City. I run half-marathons with my wife and 14-year old daughter. We spend most of our vacation time in National Parks to hike.

Mr. Burt is an excellent attorney. I have appeared for him many times on bankruptcy matters and his petition preparation and accompanying legal documents are beyond thorough. Mr. Burt is always available if communication is necessary, which is an important asset for an attorney to have. I highly recommend Mr. Burt.

This sanction means the attorney lost his or her license to practice law for a period of time. The attorney typically returns to practicing law when the suspension expires.
John’s comment: “I’m a fantastic attorney. In 2004 I appeared in a Summary Judgment Hearing before the bar approved my proof of continuing education. I believed the bar had already accepted proof. The day after the hearing, the bar approved my proof of continuing education. I was suspended two years later for 30-days for making the appearance before the bar approved the continuing education.”
