Randall Hicks limits his practice to adoption (stepparent, independent, agency). He is a member of the American Academy of Adoption Attorneys and is also the author of several leading adoption books: ADOPTION: The Essential Guide to Adoption Quickly and Safely, ADOPTING IN AMERICA: How To Adopt Within One Year and Adoption Stories for Young Children.
Virtually all other attorneys doing stepparent and newborn adoptions are family law practitioners, meaning 99% of their practice is likely divorce and child custody. Because Randy does nothing but adoptions, he believes he can do them better, faster, and less expensively. Most importantly, his approach is very personal as he understands the importance of the creation of a family and had dedicated his professional life to that one goal.
His Stepparent Adoption Center features a flat fee of only $1,500 for most uncontested stepparent adoptions, which even includes the court filing fee. This includes not only the usual work associated with the adoption and obtaining the absent parent's consent, but even appearing with the family in the finalization court hearing.
His books, and their focus on ethical and affordable adoption, have been featured in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Sun Times, and on television programs like CBS This Morning, The Home Show, Mike & Maty, Leeza Gibbons, and Sally Jessy Raphael. Randy was also the host of the 1991 PBS educational series, Adoption Forum.

I endorse this lawyer. I have had the pleasure of working with Mr. Hicks on adoption matters between his state (CA) and mine (NJ). As an adoption attorney myself I found him extremely easy to work with, totally responsive and available, and highly ethical. I was also impressed by the care and concern he had for his clients.
