I wish I had checked Yelp before using Matt Spiegel...just a horrible experience. My son, age 17, got a DUI. I was referred to Matt by Anna Yum who had been referred to me by a friend. Matt met with us, charged us $3K and left us feeling very confident in his expereince and how things were going to play out in juvenile court. Well, it didn't happen. Matt never showed up to the court hearings and neither did his side kick Ryna Tegnelia. Alicia Freeze showed up who works at a different law firm and while she was very nice, she had no idea about our son or our case. It was a joke. We had several court dates and things just got worse and worse.....Alicia wasn't prepared and we looked like idiots. Then Ryan finally blesses us with his presence towards the end of the process to no avail. He didn't get my son's transcripts, letters of reference or made any attempt to defend my son. He ended up with a 725 and in getting to know the probation officer, I learned that this case wasn't handled correctly and that the public defender would have gotten us the 654. It was so, so bad. My son was on probation for 6 months and not one call or follow up from anyone at Matt's office. If I could have represented my son at the last hearing, I would have but that's against the rules so I had to call Matt's office and remind them to attend. Ryan showed up. Probation done. I called Matt to discuss my disappointment and he never called me back so I am writing this review and next I am reporting him to the Bar. Just unacceptable.
Matt Spiegel provided service over and beyond what I expected when I was wrongly charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Naked Sec 245(a) CA Penal Code).
Matt personally met with me at my house to gather details about the case and offer advice on how to proceed. The offense counted as a strike under CA's three strike law. Matt used his extensive network within the criminal defense community to communicate the facts of the case directly with the District Attorney before charges were filed.
With these facts presented by Matt, the District Attorney decided to drop all charges. Beyond the charges, Matt contacted the local police department where the incident took place to have the arrest changed to a detention. The detention would not show up on any background checks in the future which was very important to me.
Matt was also very receptive to different payment options and was happy to work something out with me to take the case.
Without any doubt, I would recommend Matt Spiegel to any and everyone in need of some help or advice concerning issues with the law.
he did such a good job on my case. He did what everyone else said was impossible. He kept me up to date and made sure I didn't miss anything important. His didn't talk too big, so we understood everything that was going on and everything that needed to be done. Patient and friendly.
