In 1982, Fernando D. Vargas graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois where he majored in Political Science and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. In pursuit of his legal career, Fernando Vargas relocated to Northern California where he attended McGeorge School of Law, at the University of the Pacific and earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 1986.
During his tenure in law school, Fernando Vargas distinguished himself amongst his law school peers by earning a position on the International Moot Court Competition Team. He graduated from McGeorge in 1986 and obtained his license to practice law in June of 1987.
Mr. Vargas began his legal career in July of 1987 with employment at a major defense law firm in Los Angeles, which at the time employed over 100 attorneys with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Santa Ana, and Riverside. The firm handled defense matters on behalf of insurance companies in all types of personal injury casesarising out of medical mal practice claims, automobile accidents, motorcycle accidents, semi-truck accidents, bus accidents, bicycle accidents, pedestrian accidents, construction accidents, drowning accidents, dog bite incidents, slip /trip and fall incidents, defective products and governmental tort liability claims.
During the time of his employment at the defense firm, Mr. Vargas presented cases to trial on behalf of the defendant insurance companies with great success. In his last jury trial as a defense attorney, Mr. Vargas was representing a medical doctor with a specialty in oncology that was claimed to have failed to diagnose a cancerous mass in the patient’s breast. The delay in diagnosing the cancer resulted in the cancer spreading throughout the patient’s body, requiring the patient to fight a long bout with cancer, which ultimately took her life at the young age of 29. The surviving husband and three toddler children brought a lawsuit for wrongful death.
After a very emotional and sympathetic trial, the jury came back with a verdict in favor of the defense. The victory, however, was unfulfilling, unrewarding and left attorney Vargas with a void in his heart because a family was sent home without compensation after losing their cherished and beloved mother and wife. After this defense verdict, Mr. Vargas left the defense side of the legal practice and crossed over to the plaintiff’s side of the practice where he began representing those victims who suffered death or personal injuries because of the neglectful acts of others.
In 1995, the Law Offices of Fernando D. Vargas was founded by attorney Vargas. The firm was established to provide intelligently aggressive legal representation to victims who suffered death or catastrophic injuries as a result of the neglectful acts and omissions of others. Armed with the experience, knowledge, background and training of a defense attorney, the Law Offices of Fernando D, Vargas began to champion the rights of injured victims with great success.
In a career that began in June of 1987, Fernando D. Vargas has accumulated an infinite amount of experience in handling personal injury cases both as a defense attorney; and as a Plaintiff attorney. He has taken cases to trial on both sides of the desk with great success. Since founding the firm in 1995, the Law Offices of Fernando D. Vargas has successfully represented injured victims by wining tens of millions of dollars for the firm’s clients.
Mr. Vargas’ firm handles all matters on a contingency basis; and there are no fees or charges of any type if there is no recovery for the client.
