Leaving a very bad taste in my mouth. She still represents me, but after exhausting my $25,000 Retainer in about a year and a half while having me write almost everything- e mails, letters, Motions, Responses, Declarations, Reply pleadings- her husband Mark Wilson contacted me (she stopped communicating with me months ago) and demanded another $25,000. I'm the "out spouse" and cannot pay that. So, Mrs. Wilson is going to Court to be relieved of counsel... in other words, have the Court let her drop me.
While we won several small discovery "skirmishes," we have not accomplished much at all. A year or so ago, there were several hearings on different issues before our assigned Judge. I was allowed by the Court to listen in via telephone. When I heard Mrs. Wilson floundering for responses to the Judge’s inquiries, and actually uttering the words. “… um… and “wutcha ma call it… (several times) while groping for answers that she just didn’t have, I was alarmed. My wife and I still talked to each other back then and I asked her what Margaret D Wilson was actually like in person and she told me that Mrs. Wilson, and I quote, "...is the worst lawyer, in the courtroom, that I have ever seen" and that is saying something because long ago, I was a California lawyer with my own practice and my wife worked with me and we have hired and seen some REALLY weak (bad) lawyers. That said, I have to admit that Mrs. Wilson did have credibility with the Court and that is something that is always a positive. Unfortunately, she is more concerned with “pleasing” the Court or getting the respect of older, well established colleagues than zealously advocating for her client when that choice is presented.
My divorce is somewhat complex with thousands of documents and many aspects. Assets are hard to pin down. Opposing counsel ran roughshod over Mrs. Wilson. He is also extremely unethical, obstructive and intentionally will not cooperate with Discovery. Margaret Wilson was simply too inexperienced and too “billable hour” conscious to get the job done. About 1 year into it, when she realized the Retainer was going to run out, like Night and Day, she gradually stopped returning e mails, phone calls, DEMANDED that I research and write EVERYTHING and within strict time parameters and even failed to pay the modest copying fees for IMPORTANT documents that we had subpoenaed from some of my wife’s banks (checks, account histories, deposit information, etc. etc) that were delivered to her own copying service (where they have been for 6 months and where they sit at this very moment) so that she could pay herself her hourly fee. She paid herself every cent and zeroed out my Retainer instead of obtaining the bank records!
Margaret Wilson also never took the time to look at the thousands of documents that my wife gave her. Based on a conversation with her husband (again, she simply stopped talking to me a few months ago) a few weeks ago, I realized that my attorney thinks that several community real properties are still encumbered by loans that were paid off many years ago. This was the tact that Mr. Wilson tried to suggest to me as to why, maybe, there might not be any community property assets to divide down the road. She is wrong and she has the documents that these old loans were paid off years ago.
Over the past week, Attorney Wilson’s husband exclusively has bullied me to sign a Substitution of Attorney, even though I have asked Mrs. Wilson to call me or even email me on the issue and to maybe give me some advice or recommend a course of action. I understand that lawyers have to be paid for their services and can’t work for free. I just wish that this lawyer had more experience (and with it- wisdom) so that my dollars might have gone further and garnered at least something useful.
I cannot recommend this lawyer for anything but the simplest, low cost, barely contested dissolution matters.

I was involved in a bitter and complex child custody battle against one of the most renowned and highest paid law firms. My prior attorneys lost at every hearing, even though they were also well known. However, a friend referred me to Ms. Wilson and everything changed. When Ms. Wilson took on my case not only did she win for me but justice finally prevailed as a result of Ms. Wilson's outstanding skills and guidance. It is clear the Ms. Wilson is savvy in legal strategy, discovery, and trial. I highly recommend Ms. Wilson as she is clearly one of the top and most skilled family law attorney in California.

Mrs. Wilson is smart, direct, and trustworthy. I felt like all the other attorney's I consulted were just trying to tell me what I wanted to hear and I paid the price for it. Mrs. Wilson let me know that she couldn't fix what happened in the past but that we could improve things going forward and she did. I wasted a lot of money on attorney's before I was blessed enough to be referred to Mrs. Wilson by a friend. I have and will refer friends and family to her in the future.

Margaret is an excellent attorney, I have never met an attorney like her with such ethics and intergrity. She truly will do whatever it takes to do an excellent job for her clients. Her client's are first to her and she fights for what's right by going above and beyond what most attorney's would even think of doing. I highly recommend her and have never met an attorney as competent, honest and hard working as she has been for me and my family. Anyone who employs her services will sincerely be very happy with her.
