I am an associate attorney with the Law Offices of David A. Tilem, withour primary office located in Glendale, California.
Our offices represent both Debtors and Creditors in Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Chapter 13 bankruptcy. My boss is a certified bankruptcy specialist, certified by both the California Board of Certification and the National Board of Certification. At one point he was on the board that wrote the questions.
I am primarily responsible for handling Chapter 11 Individual, Corporate and Business reorganizations but I also love to do creditor side work. I am very passionate about using the law, to the maximum extent possible, to obtain the best result possible for my clients. My specialty is formulating a plan of reorganization because it involves careful planning and strategy. This makes me especially strong for creditor side work because I know what the Debtors are up to, and, if their attorney is not careful, I can take over and run the case myself.
My duties include bankruptcy planning; overseeing the preparation of the bankruptcy petition, the seven day package, applications to employ, and fee applications; determining the need for, and writing first day motions for authority to use cash collateral, utility motions, budget motions, notice of insider compensation, payroll motions, financing motions, and employment motions; attending IDI/341(a) meetings, reviewing/analyzing and revising Monthly Operating Reports, valuation motions, motions to strip or bifurcate liens, objecting to proofs of claim, status reports, disgorging fees, writing plans and disclosure statements, negotiating with creditors, preparing for evidentiary hearings, and attending all related hearings.
Prior to joining the firm, I served as an associate attorney with another boutique bankruptcy law firm where, among my other duties, I authored or supervised the drafting of sixteen Chapter 11 Plans of Reorganization.
I received my Juris Doctorate from Southwestern University School of Law in Los Angeles in May 2011. I passed the California State Bar Exam on the first try in July 2011, and I was sworn into the California Bar in December 2011.
I received my Masters of Science in Mathematics from California State University, Los Angeles in December 2007 where I specialized in topology which is a major area of mathematics concerned with the most basic properties of space, continuity, and connectivity.
I received my Bachelors of Science in Computer Science from California State University, Los Angeles in December 2005 where I specialized in artificial intelligence and assembly language.
I am currently an adjunct Professor of Mathematics with East Los Angeles Community College where I have been teaching all levels of mathematics from Algebra to Calculus and Statistics since January 2008.
I was recently recognized by the United States Bankruptcy Court, Central District of California in their 2012 Honor Roll of Pro Bono Volunteers for my volunteer work with the Los Angeles Bankruptcy Self Help Desk & Clinic where I helped guide self-represented parties, who are facing substantial economic hardship, through the bankruptcy process.
I a member of the American Bar Association, the Southern California Bankruptcy Inn of Court, the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, the Beverly Hills Bar Association, the Central District Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Association, and the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA).
