About me

Carl Botterud is a lawyer and mediator in Pasadena, California. Admitted to practice in 1992, he initially focused his work on litigation, in both civil and criminal law in state and federal court. Carl has represented plaintiffs and defendants in business, employment, real estate and criminal matters. In 1993-1994 Carl was a visiting assistant professor of law at Whittier Law School and served as an adjunct professor at that school until 2000. He taught classes including evidence, corporations, public interest law, trial advocacy, pretrial litigation, and interviewing, counseling and negotiating skills. He has served as trial counsel in over fifteen court and jury trials, and served as an advocate and neutral in numerous mediations. From 2000 through 2006 Carl’s practice focused predominately on the representation of individuals in employment and business disputes. In 2006, added mediation to his practice, serving on the Los Angeles County Court’s Pro Bono and Select through 2010. From 2010 to 2013 Carl served as general counsel at Occidental College. In September 2013, Carl rejoined his colleagues at Ritt, Tai, Thvedt & Hodges, LLP where his practice emphasizes labor and employment, higher education, civil rights, disability and alternative dispute resolution.
