Jackie Real-Salas is a partner in the boutique firm of Calleton, Merritt, De Francisco & Real Salas, LLP, specializing in estate planning, estate taxation and trust administration. Jackie is a graduate of Southwestern University School of Law, where she was a member of the Law Review, graduated second in her class and received several awards in various areas of law, including Taxation. She is also an honors graduate of Loyola Law School's Master of Laws in Taxation program. Jackie is experienced in estate planning, trust administration, estate tax return and accounting preparation, probate administration, special needs trusts and pet trusts. Her background includes elder law, litigation and real estate transactional work.
Jackie has helped many individuals create customized estate plans and has advised them in various aspects of wealth transfer planning designed to minimize estate taxes, including, but not limited to, the implementation of living trusts, life insurance trusts, charitable trusts, grantor-retained annuity trusts, defective grantor trusts, and dynasty trusts. She has also guided individual trustees in carrying out all aspects of trust administration. In furtherance of litigation avoidance strategies, Jackie has worked with beneficiaries of trusts and estates in contentious matters and has helped her clients avoid costly litigation by reaching satisfactory resolutions with their opponents. Further, Jackie has represented corporate trustees in a variety of fiduciary matters and has advised them as to their fiduciary duties in administering, modifying and terminating trusts. Jackie has lectured on topics related to estate planning to various audiences, including attorneys attending California State Bar’s Continuing Legal Education programs.
Jackie is licensed to practice in California and before the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. She has been a member of the editorial board of the Los Angeles Lawyer Magazine, a monthly publication of the Los Angeles County Bar, since 1999 and was its Chair for the year 2007; Jackie is also a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Trusts and Estates Section Executive Committee.
In her spare time Jackie volunteers for charities that benefit people with special needs and competes with her horses in the discipline of dressage. She grew up in Argentina and is fluent in Spanish.
