About me

I believe in upfront fees, straight
talk, and swift action on behalf of my clients.  As a former small
business owner myself, I have personal experience with the daily issues
you face running and growing a your own company.  And because I focus my
law practice on representing California contractors, subcontractors, and
material suppliers, I bring a thorough understanding of the specific legal
challenges faced by California construction business owners.

I began my professional career as
an entrepreneur by founding the Lighten Up Improv Co. in Kansas City,
Missouri.  I produced and directed comedy shows and tours while developing
and facilitating Corporate Teamwork & Creativity Seminars for clients
nationwide, including several Fortune 500 companies.  Ten years
later I moved to southern California and formed a start-up internet sales
business.  And five years later I put myself through law school at night
while working in the construction business by day.  Much
of my family has been in the Southern California construction
business for over 30 years.

I am a graduate of the University of Missouri and Concord Law
School, and a member of the California State Bar, the Los Angeles County Bar
Association, and the American Bar Association.  Originally from the
Midwest, I now make my home in Southern California with my wife and
two children.

I endorse Marc Garlett. I met Marc in mediation training, where he was one of the "stars" of the class. The more you get to know Marc, the more you will grow to like him and respect his litigation practice. Business litigation can be scary. When it comes to counseling business clients, Marc is way ahead of the game because he ran his own business for 20 years. That is why Marc's clients can rest easy knowing what to expect at every step -- with no hidden fees or surprise bills. Marc treats his clients like he would want to be treated as a small business owner. Marc is also a straight shooter. He gets to the point and means what he says. Not only that, clients know what is happening at every stage of the case thanks to Marc's use of secure, state of the art technology that allows clients access to case files 24/7. This is one very well-rounded, well-spoken, impressive lawyer making a good name for himself in the field of litigation.

I met Marc while we were working on a volunteer immigration project together. Although the clients we serve are vastly different, I realize that we share a similar work ethic and a common drive to help people. One of my friends is working on developing a commercial property and I have recommended that he speak with Marc early in the process to avoid problems down the line.
