About me

Edward M. Lyman is an attorney in Los Angeles, California. His legal practice focuses on civil rights, labor and employment, contract, intellectual property, and entertainment litigation.  He discretely represents high profile clients. 




While at the University of Miami, Florida, Mr. Lyman graduated from the honors program cum laude, with a dual major B.S.C. in Broadcast Journalism and English Literature. While in his undergrad he also served as a journalist for the Miami Hurricane. At Miami he earned an award for excellence in cable broadcasting for an expose on internet privacy rights.


Mr. Lyman received his law degree from the University of Florida, where he also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Entertainment Law Review, and as Executive Articles Editor for the Journal of Law & Public Policy. While in attendance he was elected to Phi Delta Phi, a legal honors society. At the University of Florida, he received honors in trial practice, legal writing and research, and the book award in Civil Procedure for "First In Class."



Professional Activites

Mr. Lyman is a member of the State Bar of California, the United States District Court Central District of California, the United States Bankruptcy Court Central District of California, the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Beverly Hills Bar Association, and the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles.

Mr. Lyman serves as an annual judge at the National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition, at Pepperdine University School of Law.




Mr. Lyman is a native of Chicago whose twin passions for the law and the entertainment industry ignited at an early age when he spent weeks of hard bargaining with his parents for his first camera. These interests developed further during his time at the University of Miami where he created his first documentary about Pottinger v. City of Miami, 40 F.3d 1155, a multimillion dollar landmark decision in favor of thousands of homeless men and women who were harassed, assaulted, and battered by the City of Miami Police Department for sleeping, eating, and performing life sustaining activities in public places. Mr. Lyman is currently completing a feature documentary about the social injustices of malaria in Zambia, Africa.


Mr. Lyman put his passions for law and entertainment to work for some prominent entertainment firms; including The Cochran Firm, Fremantle Media North America, The Walt Disney Company, Universal Studios, Inc., CompuServe, The Microsoft Network, WLUP 97.9 FM and WMVP AM 1000 Chicago. Mr. Lyman has represented a diverse group of clients ranging from startup entrepreneurs, musicians, best-selling authors, video game directors, satellite radio stations, production companies, and advertising agencies, on a range of issues from corporate formation, contract negotiations, intellectual property licensing, copyrights, trademarks, television development, criminal law, bankruptcy, and civil litigation.
