Prior to establishing his own law practice, Jacob gained significant experience in California labor and employment law while practicing in the employment litigation departments of both a well-respected, boutique business law firm based in Los Angeles and a large, international law firm, with more than 2400 lawyers practicing in 35 offices on five continents.
Jacob is an experienced and highly-skilled employment law practitioner. He has represented California employers in litigation involving allegations of wage and hour violations, wrongful termination, harassment, retaliation, and discrimination based on age, race, sex, national origin, and disability. Jacob also has defended employers in administrative proceedings before the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, among other administrative agencies. He has drafted employee handbooks and other personnel forms, prepared employment agreements, and counseled employers on a variety of personnel policies and on the prevention of employment-related claims. In addition, Jacob has conducted various training classes for California employees both in person and in live webinars, including conducting sessions of California’s mandatory AB1825 sexual harassment training. His clients in employment litigation and counseling have ranged from small, closely-held businesses to large, publicly-traded multinational corporations in the telecommunications, health care, banking, entertainment, hospitality, technology, and retail industries.
In addition to his extensive experience in labor and employment law, Jacob is also a talented litigator in general. He has experience in many aspects of civil litigation, including drafting pleadings, conducting written discovery, taking and defending depositions, preparing and arguing motions, appearing in court, attending mediations, engaging in settlement negotiations, drafting settlement agreements, and preparing for trial.
Jacob received his B.A. in Political Science from Yale College in 2003 and his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2007. While at Yale, he worked for a summer at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt and studied abroad at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
