I am a partner at Cislo & Thomas LLP in Santa Monica, California. I litigate intellectual property cases and appeals throughout the country; advise other attorneys when their cases include IP issues; and counsel clients on developing and protecting what distinguishes them from their competition, including using my litigation experience to craft effective branding, copyright, and trade secrets strategies and to draft and prosecute patent and trademark applications in the U.S. and throughout the world.
I have an extensive and diverse technical background to fully serve my clients, previously working for several years as a rocket scientist for The Aerospace Corporation, one of the nation's premier aerospace research firms. I researched rocket plume chemistry, shooting laser beams at rocket flames, developed atmosphere reentry materials, modeled the space shuttle arm to determine stability of heavy loads, evaluated launch scenarios for the GPS satellites, and simulated nuclear sub missile launch dynamics.
I now turn my client's creativity, innovations, secrets, and anything else that makes it unique and profitable into business assets, protect those assets from infringement by others, defend against allegations of intellectual property infringement, and where appropriate, invalidate the intellectual property of others.
I earned a B.S. degree in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) and a J.D. degree from the UCLA School of Law.
I am admitted to practice before the California Supreme Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals, the Central District of California, the Northern District of California, the Eastern District of California, the Southern District of California, and the District of Colorado. I am also a certified patent attorney admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
I was the President of the Santa Monica Bar Association in 2006-2007 and was a member of the Board from 2003-2008. I am also a member of the Intellectual Property Section of the California State Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Association, the Beverly Hills Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, the Federal Circuit Bar Association, the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, and Theta Tau fraternity.
