About Me

Andrew is a true fighter that solves dense problems and understands people. Andrew’s compassionate representation allows his clients to palpably feel his heart beat in the office and in court; the byproduct is a beautiful lawyer-client connection that yields amazing results.

Andrew grew up on calm San Diego beaches but learned to operate through his mother’s tough east coast roots.  This mellow-tough balance taught Andrew to litigate with a tempered poker-face intensity; his courtroom emotions do, however, bleed from his sleeve when necessary.  Andrew is never afraid to challenge opposing courtroom personalities.  His confidence is unparalleled, and his jury trial record  proves it.  Andrew has tried dozens of cases and fought almost every criminal charge on the books.

Andrew has managed to prevent convictions after jury trial more than 85% of the time; he has done this with almost zero control over the type matters he acquired as a Los Angeles Public Defender.

Andrew  loves the underdog and fights for the little guy to the bitter end.  His core beliefs are therefore to protect the vulnerable from the bully - this is his calling.

Andrew practices like an old-school lawyer: He treats his clients like family and advocates for them like he would with his own flesh and blood.

Andrew graduated with “High Honors” from the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB) in 2004 with a B.A. in Law and Society.  That same year, San Diego’s California Western School of Law accepted Andrew into their Juris Doctor program. While in law school, Andrew earned an academic scholarship and a job tutoring first year law students. Andrew’s commitment to law school academics earned him a distinguished editorial position at the California Western Law Review - a legal scholar publication.  Andrew’s natural legal talents helped him finish law school in the top 4% (Magna Cum Laude).

Andrew is a disguise legal dork. His colleagues tease him for reading the penal code on Friday, the vehicle code on Saturday and the evidence code on Sunday.  He loves to expand his criminal defense knowledge base.  Andrew believes that a full legal arsenal is critical to effective defense work.

Andrew’s other passion is weight lifting.  He believes that resistance training builds character and prepares people for the inevitable emotional obstacles that life forces us to confront. His commitment in the gym has led to several major injuries, including lower back surgery.  Nonetheless, Andrew believes that his mother, weightlifting pain and the countless uncomfortable courtroom experiences he faced as public defender made his skin thicker than the average advocate. His efforts made the paper last year...

Leventhal has guts, persistence and grace. I have watched over and over while the prosecutor tried to intimidate or fool him. And every time, every single time, he smiles, fights back and then eats their lunch. I can say that a client would be lucky to hire Mr. Leventhal. He is a scholar and a warrior.
