I am a sixth generation Nevadan and lifelong Las Vegan. I somehow graduated from UNLV in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science in Real Estate Finance and then was unexpectedly accepted to the new law school, William S. Boyd where I graduated in 2004.
During law school, a teacher pursuaded me to work at the Thomas and Mack Legal Clinic where I became exposed to child abuse cases and represented children caught in the foster care system. This was the one clinic available to me that summer and, though the subject matter seemed pretty depressing, I figured the poor kids needed whatever I could provide. This began my interest in family law since children represent the future of civiization.
The next summer at law school, Disctrict Judge Jeffrey Sobel asked me to extern for him. While riding my bicycle home one sumer evening, the police stopped me, arrested me, and then lied about the events in their reports. The law school, the ACLU, and the Las Vegas Review Journal all took my side and the charges against me were eventually denied by the District Attorney's office. This lead me the next semester to begin intensive study on criminal law and procedure to later assist many people falsely accused. In the years following law school, clients trusted me to help them on cases ranging from Chinese acrobat handlers accused of slavery by the FBI in an international case, a man accused of assisting in an armed robbery at a Las Vegas casino, an innocent homeowner whose tenants destroyed the home and installed equipment for an illegal drug lab, to many others cases, including traffic tickets, shoplifting, DUIs, and domestic violence.
Over the last decade, I also represented clients in dozens of trials and hundreds of hearings in family court, assisting parents to fight for their parental rights, assisting spouses in getting divorced and dividing property, modifying custody and child support, obtianing the right to either relocate with the children or remain in Nevada with the children despite the other parent's demands.
I have always had an interest in real estate law and I have spent most of my education understanding real estate fundamentals and applying them to help clients with issues related to ownership, including removing clouds on titles, negotiating purchases and leases, and landlord/tenant problems. Real estate also encompasses applying for permits to build. I was born in Las Vegas in the late 1970s when the valley had under 200,000 residents, so, with the tremendous ten-fold growth over two decades, the value of knowing about real estate was not lost on me.
It may seem like I am extremely busy and am all over the place in my practice areas, but I actually keep a small clientelle at any given time, provide individualized attention to my clients, don't rake my clients over the coals, and do appreciate it when my clients return to me as a sort of one-stop-shop for their legal needs. I believe in building long-term relationships with clients and other lawyers and value a few great clients who love me over many dissastisfied clients who left their experiences with other lawyers financially worse off and more depressed.
My willingness to work hard on matters has caused many other lawyers to hire me for a wide range of work, including arguing before the Nevada Supreme Court.
I am considered reasonably priced because I do not spend money on gaudy overhead or excessive staff and I enjoy alot of time with my friends and family.
