Mark was born and raised in Minot, North Dakota.  Mark was instilled with a tremendous work ethic during his young years of working the family farm.  Mark has four older brothers and sisters that taught him how to work hard as well as stand up for himself.

When Mark was 18 years old he began to live his dream of becoming a professional hockey player.  After finishing his high school and leading his team in points and penalty minutes, Mark was drafted into one of Canada`s elite junior hockey leagues.  Unfortunately on September 16, 1987 during one of Mark`s hockey games in Saskatchewan, Canada, Mark was checked from behind by an opposing player and was slammed into the boards head first.  Mark`s neck was broken and he lied on the hockey rink paralyzed from the neck down.  Mark spent the next 10 months in the hospital trying to regain use of his body.  Fortunately Mark left the hospital an independent young man.  While confined to a wheelchair, Mark did regain use of his arms and gained some strength in his legs.

Knowing that it would be difficult to succeed in life while pushing wheelchair around in the ice and snow, Mark moved to Arizona to begin his new life.  At the age of 19 Mark moved to Tempe, Arizona to attend college.  Mark graduated from Arizona State University in 1993 with a degree in political science.  During the summer of 1993, after graduating from undergraduate school Mark married got married.  Mark’s first son was born in July, 1996.  Mark and his wife had their second son in January, 2003 and their third son in June, 2004.

In order to attend law school everybody has to take a test referred to as the LSAT.  Mark scored in the top 3% in the country on LSAT.  After doing well in undergrad and scoring so extremely high on the LSAT, Mark  had his pick of law schools to attend.  Mark was offered academic scholarships from several prestigious law schools.  But Mark put his family first, as his wife had just started her career as an educator, so he entered law school at the Sandra day O’Conner College of Law at Arizona State.  Mark graduated from law school in three years and immediately started defending people from the persecution of the government.

During the summer of 1996, Mark took the Arizona Bar Exam and passed with ease.  After being admitted to practice law, Mark worked for a local criminal defense attorney by the name of David B. Smith.  In his first few year of practicing criminal defense, Mark got unbelievable experience.  Mark was lead counsel on at least one felony trial per month during his first two years.  Additionally, within two years Mark was lead counsel for several homicide cases.  During Mark’s first three years Mark won over 20 felony trials and got many more felonies dismissed.  The list of cases Mark won during his first three years is: MURDER; AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (Knife); CHILD ABUSE; AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (Baseball bat); RESISTING ARREST; AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (on Police officer); BURGLARY; AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (serious physical injury); AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (stabbing); AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (knife slashing); THEFT OF MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION; GRAND THEFT AUTO; AGGRAVATED ASSAULT (gun).  The list goes on and on.

In 1999 Mark started his own criminal defense firm.  However within a year or two Mark joined up with Chad Shell to start one of the best and most successful criminal defense firms in Arizona.  Mark and Chad are partners to this day and have successfully represented thousands of clients charged with felonies and misdemeanors all across the state of Arizona.  They have represented clients in Kingman, Flagstaff, Prescott, Sedona, Prescott Valley, Glendale, Peoria, Tucson, Casa Grande, Florence, Globe, Show Low, Pinetop, Verde Valley, Yuma, Avondale, Litchfield, Tolleson, Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Apache Junction, Payson, Wickenburg, Gila Bend, Winslow, Cave Creek, Queen Creek, and others.
