About me

I am a former DUI and Major Felony prosecutor who has been  zealously representing the clients of Thompson and Volquardsen for the last several years.  I attended California Lutheran University where I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science.  I then went on to earn a law degree from Quinnipiac College School of Law in 1997.  Since that time, I have gained extensive and valuable legal experience in the area of Criminal Law.  In fact, I started the first 7 years of my career as a prosecutor.  This experience included five years as a Deputy County Attorney with Maricopa County Attorney's Office, and two additional years as an Assistant Attorney General with the Arizona Attorney General's Office.

My five years as a prosecutor with the Maricopa Attorney's Office were served predominantly in the Major Crimes Division split between the Gang\Repetitive Offender Bureau and the Sex Crimes Bureau.  During this time, I prosecuted thousands of cases and conducted an extremely large number of jury trials in cases ranging from DUI and  drug cases, to very serious high profile sex crime cases and violent gang related shooting cases.  As a result of this work and obtaining a near perfect 54 guilty verdicts out of 56 trials, I was honored to receive numerous recognition awards.

While serving as an Assistant Attorney General with the Arizona Attorney General's Office in the Drug Conspiracy Unit, I prosecuted hundreds of drug related cases ranging from drug possession, sales, and methamphetamine labs to extremely large, high profile, and  multi-defendant drug trafficking rings and wire tap cases.

Finally, as a defense attorney I now use this vast experience as well as contacts with prosecutors and judges to obtain the absolute best possible results for my clients.  I would compare these results to that of any other defense attorney without hesitation.

I am originally from San Diego, California, but have lived in Arizona for approximately fourteen years.  I enjoy spending time with my wife and 7 year old son, Jack, enjoying such activities as sports, fishing trips, and being active in my church.

I look forward to using my experience as a former prosecutor to fight for you to obtain the best possible result.  Please feel free to contact me anytime on my cell phone at (480) 299-9005 for a free consultation.

I have personally & professionally known Jim for over 20 years. Jim exemplifies characteristics and knowledge that ensure the best representation for his clents. He not only works in his clients' best interests, he cares and explains to them as a friend every aspect of the legal ramifications of their case to ensure he is providing them with a comfort level that other lawyer's try to emulate, but typically fail to deliver. This is the quality that separates Jim from his colleagues.

I endorse this lawyer. I worked with Mr. Simpson on a complicated interstate licensing consequence issue relating to an Extreme DUI charge that was picked-up in Arizona by a California licensee. In my experience finding an out-of-state lawyer who understands these types of issues is difficult. If you are a California licensee charged with a DUI in Arizona, look no further than Mr. Simpson and his firm to handle your DUI case. No matter how frustrating the situation got, Mr. Simpson maintained a clear head and was able to push through the "red tape" to obtain the best possible outcome. Mr. Simpson is not only a great lawyer, but also a great person who understands the needs of his clients. I would highly recommend Mr. Simpson and his firm to represent you if you were charged with a DUI in Arizona regardless of whether you were or were not an Arizona licensee.
