James M. Cordes is an experienced family law attorney who received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and his law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2010.
James practices family law at both the trial and appellate level. He has both successfully litigated complex cases in courtrooms across Colorado and reached fair settlements through both mediation and litigation. James has the experience to guide you through complicated financial issues including dividing business interests and pensions (including military pensions and defined benefit plans), determining child support and maintenance obligations, and accomplishing a fair division of property. In addition, James can guide you through the difficult process of determining child custody (the allocation of parental responsibilities) and child support, and will fight for your parental rights.
In 2013, James was honored to be published in the Colorado Lawyer and recognized as Faculty at the annual Colorado Bar Association Family Law Institute. He continues to be active in the family law community.
Prior to joining Kaplan Law, James worked at small family law firm in Denver. He completed a Fellowship at the Colorado Department of State where he helped develop new policies based on his analysis of statutory law and administrative regulation, and prompted legislative change to the Notary Public statute. James enjoys triathlons, cycling, skiing, dancing, and loves watching football.
