Sparkman + Foote LLP is a small firm of highly experienced lawyers focused on achieving clients' objectives effectively and with integrity through quality, proactive and cost-effective advice and legal services. We focus our practice on entrepreneurs, small and medium-sized businesses and their owners and managers in all aspects of business law, tax planning, real estate, basic and complex wills, trusts and estate planning, and charitable planning.
I have been engaged in the practice of law since 1968 serving clients in the areas of domestic and international business transactions, contracts, corporate law, financing, private placements, mergers and acquisitions, employment, and general business law. I also counsel lawyers, law firms, and in-house legal departments on matters of legal ethics and professional responsibility.
In addition to providing legal counsel, I have served as CEO, COO and CFO of companies in the medical device, environmental, engineering and consulting fields. My representation and advice reflect an experience-based understanding of the effects of legal issues in real-world business situations and practical advice to meet those situations.
A reformed suburbanite, I live very near downtown Denver where I can walk or bike to work, weather permitting. After serving 6 years on active duty as a Navy officer (I am a retired Captain, U.S. Navy Reserve), my career has been in the legal and business world. I have lived in Connecticut and worked there and in New York City, and lived and worked in Australia, Hong Kong, and finally back in Denver where I have spent the last 20+ years. My wife and I enjoy the privilege of living in Colorado and take advantage of the wonderful skiing, snowshoeing, hiking and sailing [yes, sailing - Lake Dillon, at 9,000+ feet, is on the published list of 50 places in the world to sail before you die!] in the beautiful Colorado mountains.
My great pleasures in life come from my family, helping my clients understand legal matters in plain English and achieve practical solutions, assisting other lawyers to practice law ethically, and helping direct the non-profit Health TeamWorks (www.healthteamworks.org), focused on improving the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare, first in Colorado and now expanding nationally. I also enjoy teaching and am a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Colorado Denver School of Pharmacy and a member of the adjunct faculty of the Regis University School of Pharmacy.
