About me

Jonathan W. Charnitski represents individuals in family law matters, including divorce, child custody and support, modifications, and pre- and post-nuptial agreements. Previously, he was a journalist covering telecommunications and intellectual property issues on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., worked for Fannie Mae in governance and compliance during the housing market recovery, and has been involved in numerous large-scale litigation and government investigations. He has been practicing family law in Austin since 2013.

Jonathan received his J.D. in 2008 from Villanova School of Law outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was President of the Intellectual Property Law Society and research assistant for the late Professor Penelope Pether. His academic work ranged from intellectual property and copyright issues around the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to the limits of executive privilege in the War on Terror. He holds a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Washington in Seattle, where he earned national recognition from the Society of Professional Journalists as an opinion writer and was recognized as a Leader of the Student Press by the Associated College Press for his work as Editor-in-Chief of The University of Washington’s student newspaper, The Daily.

In his spare time, Mr. Charnitski enjoys playing guitar, running, rooting for the Washington Huskies, and attempting to tame his back yard with his wife.

Jonathan sets himself apart from other attorneys simply because he gives above and beyond the kind of detailed attention required to leave each client in a better position than he found them. He will give you an honest opinion of the strengths and weaknesses of your case under the law, and then expertly deal with both. If you are looking for an attorney who cares deeply about getting the job done right, look no further than Mr. Charnitski.
