Called me back late at night to reassure me that everything would be alright. Made my Christmas a little brighter. Provided sound guidance and support. It was great to speak from nurse to nurse. Knowing that she was a nurse provided me comfort. I will forever remember her kindness. I situation turned out great. Thanks again!

    Consulted attorney

I've had an ongoing legal matter that has effected my status with the Board of Nursing. Even though I have not retained Ms. Mackay, she has consulted with me on two separate occasions on the matter. She has been very responsive and her advice and counsel have been very sound. If this matter ever requires representation, I would definitely retain Ms. Mackay to represent me.

    Consulted attorney

Taralynn has exceeded my expectations and has went above and beyond in providing me the assistance I needed. She took the time to listen to the situation and provide helpful guidance for the best course of action. She provided insight as to how the Board functions, and provided me realistic expectations for resolve. While other lawyers were quick to imply costly and time-consuming methods, Taralynn provided a strategy to bring closure as soon as possible. If you ever are seeking professional legal counsel in this area, please consider her services.

    - A grateful patron

    Hired attorney

Taralynn was wonderful. She picked out a consultant to prep for the board hearing (shout out to the excellence of Kevin Foy, you were also a great help) and was always available to give support. The informal hearing closed the findings and my license is free and clear. I cannot stop smiling.

    Hired attorney

Taralynn surprised me from the beginning with how honest, straightforward, and knowledgeable she is. I spoke with other attorneys about my BON issue before I found her, and while they were all friendly, none of them could explain my issue and the way the Board works like Taralynn did. She was very reasonable, and truly understood my needs as a client. Some of the other professionals I contacted suggested a much heavier, expensive course of action, but Taralynn encouraged working with the Board, rather than trying to fight them- this worked out perfectly. I think she's so good at this because she truly knows how the system works. Her fees are reasonable as well- as a nursing student, I was able to afford her. She knows the right people and understands how to communicate with them to affect the best possible outcome. She consistently went beyond what I paid her, and communicated frequently with me just to make sure I was updated and didn't have questions. She is pleasant, understanding, and will actually listen to what you have to say. After months of uncertainty and stress, I felt very safe once she started working on my behalf. I have never felt so strongly that 5 stars is not enough. If you're looking for someone to help you, she's it.

Ms. Mackay represented me in defending my license during an investigation by the BON. She was very professional and experienced as an attorney. I also felt very comfortable with her representation as she had practiced nursing and understood the effects that a complaint has on a nurse and their career. Ms. Mackay explained everything from the first phone call to throughout my hearing. This is a stressful process, but Ms. Mackay always made me feel at ease. I could never thank her enough for all her hard work and dedication to my case. I would recommend anyone who has a licensure or an investigation case before the BON to obtain Ms. Mackay to represent them. She is truly an amazing attorney.

  • Helpful and attentive legal services for my declaratory order

In August, I begin the process of submitting a petition for declaratory order from the Texas Board of Nurses. I had never had any experience dealing with something like this. I contacted a total of six legal offices by email and phone (half of which advertised in a nursing publication), and Ms. Mackay was the ONLY attorney who returned my request for info. In fact, she called me personally after hours at the end of the day the same day I sent her an email. She was very compassionate, caring, attentive, and thorough with my case. She was always there by phone or by email to calm me and guide me through the process. I received my order earlier this week, and I know it is largely due to to Ms. Mackay's assistance. I highly recommend anyone needing to deal with the Texas Board of nurses on an administrative matter to call Ms. Mackay's office and seek her counsel.

She obtained a resolution for my issue before the Texas Board of Nursing that was far better than I expected to obtain. I think she used to be an attorney for the nursing board before going into private practice, so she knows the different personalities on the board and how they can affect your case. She and her legal assistant are very responsive (especially by email), and kept me frequently updated as to the progress of my issue before the nursing board. In summary, she did an excellent job for me, and I am very grateful. I would absolutely recommend her to anyone needing representation before the Texas Board of Nursing.

Taralynn Rena Mackay’s response: “Thank you for the nice compliments. Actually I worked for the Texas Medical Board as an attorney, but I have been defending nurses before the Texas Board of Nursing since 1997 and it is the only type of law I practice. Thank you again Robert.”
  • Best TX BON Attorney Ever!!!!!

Mrs. Mackay is awesome. I didn't even end up having to hire her. She just had a consult with me over the phone and told me the best step to take first and I did. Afterwards when I went to hire her, she just told me that I shouldn't have any problems with TX BON and if I did then call her but there was no need to hire her. I ended up meeting Mrs. Mackay at BON hearing for nurses when I was a nursing student and the way she represented her client was so professional and the TX BON discipline board gave her the up most respect. Little did I know that she used to be the attorney for TX BON. I didn't know or think at the time that obtaining my license was going to be a nightmare. Taralynn explained to me what was specific about my case and that the TX BON attorney at the time was giving me false illegal false information. I wished I had contacted her earlier on when I was fighting for my license. This would of saved me months of stress, tears, anxiety, and a lot of "What If's?" Long story short I just had two phone calls with Mrs. Mackay and I ended up getting my license with no stipulations. If you have any problems with the TX BON. Please contact this brilliant woman!

Taralynn Rena Mackay’s response: “Thank you for the lovely comments, but I want to make two corrections -- I started my law practice working for the Texas Medical Board (known then as the Texas Board of Medical Examiners) not the Texas Nursing Board. I also want to clarify the TX BON attorneys do not give illegal false information rather their focus is on the their employer, the Board, and not the nurse and thus they are not allowed to advise the nurse.”
