Family law - Divorce/Custody Jurisdictional Dispute

Case Conclusion Date: 03.20.2013

Practice Area: Family

Outcome: The case was entirely dismissed for lack of subject matter jurisdiction.

Description: This was a jurisdictional dispute, though the case had been pending over a year before I was retained. Mom had filed for divorce and for custody in Texas, though Dad (whom I represented) had resided with the children in Tennessee for the past couple years. I was retained the evening before a hearing at which Dad had been ordered to attend. I worked late drafting pleadings contesting the propriety of jurisdiction and ultimately drafted a brief on proper jurisdiction.
