I have practiced criminal and juvenile defense law since 1994, and I am passionate about defending clients from governmental prosecution. I am a voice for the voiceless, the vulnerable and the fearful. I frequently set cases for jury trial
and force the State to try to prove their case or dismiss it. More often than not, the case is dismissed, reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor or the client is found not guilty. In adult criminal district court, I also frequently prepare defense packets on felony cases and thereby persuade the grand jury
to no bill (dismiss) the case -- an incredible 34 felony cases dismissed just since November 2008.
I charge separate fees for trial cases and non-trial cases. The fees are affordable to most people, however I am not a pro bono lawyer.
I graduated from Gerry Spence's Trial Lawyers College
(TLC), the most selective and prestigious trial advocacy program in America, and I also financially support the TLC as a Ranch Club member. The TLC teaches advanced trial techniques to defense attorneys. I was also recognized as one of the top trial lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers organization.
I have been Board Certified as a specialist by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in the area of Juvenile Law since 2004. Currently, in Texas, I am one of only 38 such lawyers in private practice.
I grew up in Nashville and in 1987 moved to Texas to attend Baylor University where I studied Journalism, Latin American (Spanish) and Asian Studies (Japanese) at Baylor University. I graduated with honors in 1990. I then lived in Mexico City and traveled throughout Mexico prior to entering law school. In 1993, I graduated from South Texas College of Law. I have been married to my wife Araceli for 25 years. We have 2 children and worship in a Catholic church.
If you need a defense attorney to represent you, your child or a loved one, call me and let me know how I can help.
