I was a bit terrified at first for the simple fact that I had never hired a lawyer before, and I know people that have had bad experiences with lawyers. So I did some research and read many reviews about several different lawyers. The lawyer that really stood out and seemed trustworthy was Ruby Powers. So I decided to visit her office regarding the Deferred Act process. She and her staff were so helpful, they even stayed on the phone with me giving directions to their office because I got lost on the way. So I was a little late but the appointment still went on. Ruby was super nice and down to earth. She made me feel comfortable, and there was seriously nothing terrifiying about it. From that moment on they were with me every step of the way. They explained everything, and answered every question. I had no problems with their service whatsoever. It took about three months to receive my employment authorization, so everything was pretty quick. I am so glad I went with my gut and chose her to be the lawyer to represent me, she and the staff are amazing. I truly am thankful.

Ruby is an AWESOME lawyer, even though she is in Texas and I'm in California, she was accessible at all times! She always answered my questions even the smallest one. Thanks to her my fiancé was able to come home. His case was tougher than others because she had to fight his illegal presence but also misrepresentation. I am a Canadian and my Fiancee and I applied for a K1 Visa and was told I needed a waiver. I had some minor criminal charges when I was a kid in Canada and a few minor charges as an adult. Ruby successfully got me the waiver and worked diligently to get us to the K1 Interview and approved. She was with us all of the way and even sat in on our interview. It was a long hard road to getting my Green Card but Ruby made it a lot easier and faster. Also, she is very reasonably priced and has a great staff supporting her. Highly recommended.

I called Ruby with only two weeks till my interview date and she blocked the date on her schedule, and worked tirelessly on my case. She responded promptly to all my questions and left no question unanswered. She worked around the clock on my case, including on days she wouldn't normally be in the office, including a Saturday!!!

She is very well versed in immigration law, and in my interview there were a few times she actually very politely corrected the immigration officer. She thinks outside the box and gives every case her 100%.

She is also very compassionate and treats you like a human being, not 'just a client'. At one point I broke down and cried in the interview and I felt her hand on my back consoling me. She really does give her all into your case...and when she did all this she was two weeks away from having a baby, Yes...she was 9 months pregnant but very very in the game and put her work before anything else.


Honestly speaking, Ruby is the best person you can go with especially in asylum cases. She is very knowledgeable ( prepared me extensively so I knew what to expect, which helped a great deal). Even after the interview, she still responds to emails and remains interested in the case to see you through.

My husband and I hired Ruby Powers earlier this year for a I-601 waiver. While I'm somewhat pleased with her services there were issues. I was hesitant about writing this review but I feel that this review might help future clients and Ruby as well. Some of the pros is that she does everything online, we only had to go to the office 2 times. She always responded to my email within 24hours or less. You should expect to gather a lot of documentation and make copies of everything because some documents got lost. She is also very knowledgeable in her field. One of the things I realized along this immigration process is that no one cares more about your case than yourself, so you have to be on-top of everything. Some of the first issues were small things, things that were oversaw and as a result I ended up making 2 or 3 trips to UPS and pay additional delivery fees. My negative experience comes from the actual preparation and handling of the waiver package. They had 3-4wks to complete my package and had to be finished on a Friday by 12pm. That Friday came and my husband showed up by 11am but didn't end up leaving the office until 4pm. The final payment had to be made that same day and I was having trouble with paypal. What it came down to was that she couldn't give me the package until I paid, which I can respect. By no means would I ask her to do it for free but I had hope she showed a little more compassion since this package had to be sent to UPS asap, the package wasn't finished on time, and we had always paid our fees ahead of time. After a horrible afternoon, the fees were paid and my husband barely manage to send the package on time. While my husband was waiting for them to "finish" the packet he noticed the staff was very unprofessional, there are some things you don't talk about in front of clients and they obviously don't realize or care about that. When the packet finally arrived, there were several mistakes. Some of the cover sheets were dirty, others were in the wrong place, missing information/letters, and one of them even had a different client's name. I was pretty upset to say the least. To top it off, when I called/email them to send me an updated version of what needed to be fixed they didn't do it until the next day, the day my flight was scheduled to leave . I had to go out of my way, find a printing place and pay for services that I had already paid for in my final payment and that could've easily been avoided. I wrote an email to express my disappointment that very day and I can't recall if they ever apologized. I paid for a service and as such I expected for it to be done right the first time. I felt I wasn't treated like a customer but more like a number. As clients we put our trust in our attorneys and their staff to do a good job and it is sad when that trust is betrayed. During my time in MX I didn't receive 1 email to see how I was doing nor did I received an update on my case. I figured out how to do the rest on my own once I found out I was approved. Out of politeness, I emailed Ruby when I was approved and when I came back home. While I do appreciate her services, I feel that there's definitely room for improvement both from her and especially from her staff. Maybe things have changed since her business has grown and she now has more staff. I definitely hope so for the sake of future clients. I also felt the fees were high, especially after talking to many other clients from other firms. If you're going to hire her, make sure to double check everything.

My fiancé had been living in the US for approximately 9 yrs when his work visa expired and he returned to Canada. We first sought help from two other immigration attorneys and spent thousands of dollars before we finally found Ruby. We had applied and been approved for a K-1 visa, but were told that my fiancé would also need an I-601 Waiver. We were not happy with the attorney we had been working with and were desperate to find someone who was knowledgeable and fair. We knew that an I-601 waiver was difficult to get approved, so finding the right person was vital. Ruby had experience with I-601 waivers and took us through the process step by step. She told us what was required and recommended additional information that she felt would be helpful. In the middle of the process Ruby moved out of the US, but still worked with us very closely and was very thorough. Finally, this past April, the waiver was granted and my fiancé was able to come home. Our lives were put on hold for almost three years, and I believe that the whole process would’ve gone much more quickly if we would’ve had Ruby as our attorney from the beginning. Not only is she an excellent attorney, she is also a kind, compassionate person. I am so grateful that we found her when we did and would highly recommend her to anyone in need of visa assistance.

We first heard about Ruby through the internet. I was looking for a good lawyer to handle my I-601 waiver and her reviews were excellent . My waiver was for misrepresentation , which is usually a difficult one. Basically i have almost lost hope till i met Ruby. She went beyond everything i have ever expected from a lawyer. The first time we talked to Ruby was through Skype , she gave us more than the time that we supposed to have in our consultation. She listened very carefully to everything and i guess she also felt how miserable we were. Ruby gave us the hope and she assured us that anything is possible and the waiver can be approved. Ruby was very very proficient , she knows everything in the immigration process . She is extremely diligent and meticulous in her work. She did an excellent job in assembling our waiver in a one month period that we had. She followed with us regularly, answered all our questions and responded to every single email we have sent to her. I can't remember anytime that Ruby didn't get back to me at all as other lawyers would do. She is very knowledgeable in her field. She masters everything perfectly. Ruby is also a truly genuine person. her fees are very reasonable compared to other lawyers . after we have sent the waiver Ruby told me to expect an answer for the waiver within 3 to 6 months , maybe less maybe more.. They approved our waiver after 47 days exactly , and received my green card in the mail one week later. Isela , Ruby's assistant is very nice and she does her job perfectly. I am sure and definite that Ruby powers is the best immigration lawyer in houston. I really would recommend Miss Ruby to anyone who has immigration problems and i am sure that you will be as happy and lucky as we have been.

We used Ruby for help with our 601 waiver in Mexico. I am an attorney in another state and I selected Ruby over any of the local immigration attorneys I knew for three reasons: first, Ruby has a wealth of experience in the waiver process. Ruby L. Power is a great lawyer, She is a hardworking dedicated and trustworthy and really responsible. I really don't know what would I have done with out her she got my husbands I-601 waiver approved. Before I hired Ruby, I had a notary working on my case which it did not help at all because our case got referred for not having enough hardship evidence and which the notary did not know what to do she just told us to wait to see what happens. But I knew i had to do something about, I knew if we still had notary working on our case I would have gotten us denied for I-601 waiver so I decided to call Ruby and right away she got on our case and got me informed on what was going to happen next. We only had a few days to turn in the hardship evidence which thank's to Ruby we got it in before the deadline. My husband & I had processed our K-1 on our own, but in the final AOS, we were thrown a serious set back. We needed a good lawyer, and needed one fast. I contacted Ruby though a anonymous post from a visa forum. From our 1st meeting, the thing I liked most about Ruby, is her attitude to take one thing at a time. She is not all doom and gloom, and after hearing our story, she said let's do this 1st, and see what happens and then we will go from there if we need to do more.
Her fee was was reasonable, she acted fast to meet the deadline, and stayed in constant contact with us until our paperwork was filed. After handling our process from the start, it was hard to hand over to someone else, especially at this critical point in the process, it took about a week working with Ruby to realize we had picked the perfect lawyer for our case.
