  • My lawyer settled with the insurance company for less then my medical bills without speaking to me first. What to do?

I was involved in a motorcycle accident and other driver was at fault. My lawyer told me he settled for 30k, it was the most the insurance company would allow for the policy apparently. He never asked if I wanted to settle. I just came in one day ...

I agree with my colleague, you need to sit down and speak to your attorney and find out what is going on.

  • I'm a nurse who had an accident from driving drunk. I went to a party on New Year's Eve and people were smoking marijuana.

As a probationary per trail exam I was ordered to take a drug test in which was positive for thc. Will the court system or probation dept. report the positive drug test to the state board of nursing? I personally do not smoke marijuana.

    Lisa’s Answer

You really should consult an attorney in your state. It is possible that you should have self reported the DWI to the state board of nursing, but I don't practice in MI so I would definitely encourage you to speak with an attorney in your state. In AR we have a requirement of self reporting to the nursing board. I don't know what MI requires, but for your sake, you need to find out to make.

  • Am I at fault for this accident?

I was driving Infront of a van that didn't have the lights in the back on. Cautiously I slowed down. Seeing he pulled to the side, i continued straight. A foot close to passing him, he turned left causing me to hit him on the passenger back door.

    Lisa’s Answer

That will have to be determined by providing more facts. Did you get a police report? If so what did it say?

  • My daughter and grandson were living with me when she passed away 10 days ago. The father and I agreed the child should stay

with me at least thru this school year. What agreement can we sign to give me temporary custody for school, medical and social security benefits?

    Lisa’s Answer

Counsel gives good advise. An agreement between you and the father is free, a guardianship through the court will cost money. But the guardianship will not be easily revoked without going back through the court system.

  • I want to adopt my biological child that has been in my care since birth.

I am a mother of two children, I want to terminate any rights that their birth father may have. An Arkansas attorney advised me to adopt my own children and said that I meet the criteria to do so. Is this hard to win?

    Lisa’s Answer

. Usually when the parental rights are terminated, there is another to stand in the place of the one whose rights are to be terminated. In other words if you are terminating the rights of a father, there is another to stand in the place of the father.

    Lisa’s Answer

If your friend had your permission to drive the car, then you can be held liable. But as the other attorney indicated, let your insurance company defend you. You need to make sure you send notice of the complaint to your insurance company and make contact with them.

I bought a car, paid for the title, licence and sticker. The last thing i needed was insurance. I went out of town, left the car in the driveway and gave the keys to my parents. My 19 yr. Old brother asked to see the car to go to the store. Me bei...

    Lisa’s Answer

Since your brother had your permission, you will be held liable. If the claim letter is from an attorney you can give them a call and request the proof of the damages and then determine if the estimates are out of line. You probably can agree to a payment plan by talking to that attorney who is doing the collections for the insurance company.
