I have been given incorrect information twice that I know of so far! In our initial interview I was told
I would be allowed to keep my tax refund if I filed chapter 13 instead of chapter 7. Because I adopted a special needs child and have an adoption credit this is a big deal. With no credit it will allow me to put the
money in savings so it is there should something happen.
When I get the papers I find out I have to submit a copy of my tax return. When I has the lawyers assistant, you never get to speak with the lawyer, she says MOST of the time you get to keep it but the trustee my make you give it up. Why on earth did the lawyer tell me differently???? That is a large portion of the reason I chose to go with a chapter 13 because I qualified to go either way.
When I very first filed I was told not to worry about the money in my checking account. I told him my car loan was through were I got my car. He said since I decided on a chapter 13 I didn't need to worry about it. Wrong....my account was frozen with my rent money in it. They did not unfreeze it until the case went for confirmation so I had to figure out how to come up with rent twice in one month. As many bankruptcy's as he does he should know the law. In the interview I really felt comfortable with him. I thought he cared about his clients. I just don't understand why I was given incorrect information.
Great people! They were all extremely helpful and down to earth. Did not make me feel bad about my situation. They were very understanding and extremely helpful in explaining everything to me. Although I don't wish this on anyone I strongly recommend these guys if you ever find yourself in this terrible situation. They are definitely who you want on your side.
I have worked with Rick several times over the years and every single time he surprises me with his intellect and experience. He is kind and caring and does not leave anything to spare. Thanks Rick.
My dad and mom posted about their experience with Rick and I also wanted to share my thoughts. Actually, my parents recommended I see him when my ex filed for divorce and left me with a ton of debt. 26 with 2 kids and a mess of bills was kind of my low point. Rick and Randi were very kind and they didn't judge me. They just helped me get through a chapter 7 bankruptcy. Don't get me wrong, I would have rather not had to file....but my experience with Rick and his staff was definitely positive. I do agree that Rick is hard to get on the telephone. But he told me that when we first met. What that person didn't say is that if clients need to have an issue addressed all they have to do is schedule an office appointment with Rick. He told me he likes to talk in person to make sure the issues get fully resolved, and he didn't charge me for the visits. Maybe that other person needed other legal work done and didn't want to pay? I don't know....but I do know that all I had to do was schedule an appointment with him at no cost to me. Personally, I liked coming in to see him rather than talking on the phone anyway. Just my 2 cents.
When my wife lost her job we got behind on our mortgage payments. I was referred to Rick by my co-worker. Rick helped her to save her home and she thought he could help us too.
I have nothing but great things to say about him and his staff. My wife and I worked with Rick and Kayla mostly, but we did meet with one other girl. I don't remember her name.
They got us a manageable payment and helped us keep our home. We are very happy we went with his office.
After reading some of the other comments here I really wanted to post what it was like for us. I'm telling Rick I posted this and if you want you can get my contact info from him and I'll tell you the truth.
I'm pretty sure those people posting bad stuff about Rick are either fake posts by competitors or people who are just complainers.
We actually sent our daughter to see him due to her husband filing for divorce. He did a chapter 7 for her and she had no problem at all.
Claims to be family orientated, lie. Paralegal is slow and cost me ch 7-but made sure her sister was able to send me a letter about buying a car from a dealership. Rick said our ch 13 had a 90% chance of being reasonable! it wasn't. Our settlement cost me my marriage and was so intrusive that we could barely survive-I had lost over 3/4 of my income. Rick is almost impossible to get ahold of after your case, email- which I was told was the best way is a joke as is phone. Money though get attention. I read a great review for January, a colleague of his, must have been a put up job, cuz choosing this attorney was the worst decision of my life.
I filed chapter 13 and was not pleased when almost a year later, it had not been settled. Rick was difficult to get ahold of and instead sent everything to his paralegal and to January who doesn't know what she's doing. When it was all done, the judge denied my plan and Rick dropped me like a hot potato. Now I have to file chapter 7 with a different attorney who will hopeful know more about the feasibility of a plan than just giving me false hope. I also received a bill for $3000 and he didn't do anything to help my situation. My case is very complex, so if yours is too, please go elsewhere.
Filed a Chapter 13 three years ago-Rick was very helpful and informative until it was filed and then he was impossible to get in touch with (actually told us it would cost us $125 to talk to him after we filed, even though the questions we had were about the bankruptcy we had already paid him for). Would not recommend to my worst enemy.
I was told upfront this would not be easy. It was better than I thought and my finances are improving. I like Rick. He is not your "typical attorney" and actually treats you like a person. I'd go talk with him and his staff. You will see what I mean.
Rick and his staff were great at getting us in and walking us through the initial process. However, that's where it ended. Once they got our case filed and they got their money, they were done with us. Do they not think that clients will have questions within the first year or so? When problems arose, we found the staff to be rude and when we did receive it information, it was often conflicting. Either pick a different attorney or save some money and file yourself.
