Stephen is one of the founding partners of Lehnardt & Lehnardt, LLC. His focus with clients is as a professional legal counselor, although he likes to refer to himself as "an enabler" who first listens to discover what his clients need and want, and then counsels with his clients to help them get what they want... legally.
Whether estate planning, asset protection planning, business counsel, tax avoidance, or government benefits, Stephen acknowledges and quantifies the complexities that challenge even the simplest goals. He simplifies matters so clients can focus clearly and efficiently on what they want. Stephen helps families with special needs, farmers and businessmen, investors and entrepreneurs, heirs and beneficiaries, Veterans and seniors.
Stephen received his undergraduate degree in Public Relations from Brigham Young University (1992) and obtained both his Doctorate of Jurisprudence and Master of Laws in Taxation degrees in 1996 from the University of Missouri—Kansas City School of Law. Following law school, Stephen entered private practice and formed Lehnardt & Lehnardt, LLC with his father. Stephen’s clients are from all walks of life and business and located locally, nationally and internationally. Client matters range from the simple to the most complex—probate and guardianship assistance, business exit and succession planning, estate and retirement planning, planning for non-U.S. citizens, major commercial real estate investment and development, and multi-national planning for investments and corporate finance, and more.
Stephen is an active member of the American Bar Association (Section on Taxation; Section on Real Property, Probate and Trusts); Missouri Bar Association (Probate & Estate Planning and Tax Law Committees); the Kansas Bar Association; the J. Reuben Clark Law Society; and the National College of Probate Judges. Stephen is one of the founding members of Wealthcounsel—a national organization of top estate and tax planning attorneys, and is the founder the Midwest Estate and Financial Planning Institute, a 501(c)(3) educational organization whose mission is to provide the community of consumers and professionals with timely and meaningful information an education on estate, tax and financial planning matters. Stephen has served on the Board of Directors for the National Advisors Trust Company, an independent federally-chartered trust company.
Stephen is an Accredited Attorney with the VA, and is admitted to practice before numerous courts, including the United States Tax Court. Stephen frequently speaks and conducts public seminars and workshops and professional continuing education instruction on a wide range of estate, tax, elder law and government benefit planning topics, as well as business planning topics.
