John D. Alleman

John grew up in the small town of Mt. Zion, IL. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1987 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Public Administration.  After graduating from Southern Illinois University School of Law, John had opportunities to move and practice law in St. Louis but chose to stay in the area. He continues to raise his family in the Carbondale area.

John was sworn into practice in the state and federal courts of Illinois in May 1990; and was sworn into practice before the United States Supreme Court in 2011. He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) and has achieved several accomplishments while practicing law in the Southern Illinois region. He won one of the largest “slip and fall” jury verdicts in the state of Illinois ($ 396,410.00) in 1996; He settled one of the largest Workers Compensation cases in excess of $2,100,000; and he has NEVER lost a medical malpractice case.John supports many charitable interests in the region; and provides free legal services to low income families through his office and through The Land of Lincoln Legal Aid program.

Interesting facts:  John’s first job was during high school with Red Lobster restaurants as a dish washer.

He started his professional education with Spartan Aviation in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1983 and 1984. He continues to be an active pilot today. He is a member of the Airplane Owners Pilot Association (AOPA) and the Cirrus Owners and Pilots Association (COPA).

He worked his way thru undergraduate school at IBP, the largest meat processor in the country. As lead man, John ran the packaging department that had over 100 employees.

At Southern Illinois School of Law, he was one of 3 students who graduated early, with several academic honors, including being a finalist in the legal writing / argumentation class as a first year law student. Later, John was hired as a law school teacher for that same class. John was also a research assistant for Professor Don Garner, a national expert on cigarette / tobacco litigation in the United States.

John is active in the community and easily recognizable. On any given day you might see him at the local farmer’s market, riding his motorcycle through town, attending AJ’s softball games, or heading to the Marion airport.

John is an avid Green Bay Packers fan, stockholder with the franchise, and season ticket holder.
