Edward David Manzo
About meEdward D. Manzo has worked exclusively in IP law since 1975 and is one of the founders of Cook Alex Ltd. in Chicago. His practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, counseling, and managing patent prosecution. He is Vice President of IPLAC and has represented IPLAC in amicus briefs filed with the U.S. Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. After serving as one of the attorneys in the first district court appeal to Federal Circuit in 1982, he worked on many subsequent appeals to that court. He is the editor-in-chief of two books published annually by Thomson Reuters: Claim Construction in the Federal Circuit and Patent Claim Interpretation–Global Edition, a new title which covers 21 countries. He is the originator of The Claim Construction Game™ lecture and is a frequent lecturer on several aspects of patent law for the American Inns of Court, Thomson West, Law Seminars International, PLI, IPLAC, AIPLA, and APLF. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Law at DePaul Univ. College of Law, where he teaches patent law. From 2005-08, he served on the Pattern Jury Instruction Committee of the Seventh Circuit subcommittee in preparing jury instructions for use in patent cases. He is currently working on a rules committee with the court (NDIL) preparing local rules for use in patent cases. He is a member of the bars of the States of New York and Illinois, and the USPTO. He holds degrees in Physics (Polytechnic University, 1972, now part of NYU) and law (State University of New York, 1975, cum laude) and is listed in Who’s Who in the World, Illinois Superlawyers, and elsewhere.
