About Me

Edward D. Manzo is a lawyer, author, and educator. He has worked exclusively in IP law since 1975. He has been voted one of the Top 100 lawyers in Illinois by IL Super Lawyers in 2010 and 2011. His practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, counseling, and managing patent prosecution. He is currently President of IPLAC (2010-11) and has represented IPLAC in several amicus briefs. After serving as one of the attorneys in the first district court appeal to Federal Circuit in 1982, he worked on many subsequent appeals to that court. He is the editor-in-chief of two books published annually by Thomson Reuters: Claim Construction in the Federal Circuit and Patent Claim Interpretation–Global Edition, which covers 30 countries and jurisdictions. He is the originator of The Claim Construction Game(R) lecture and is a frequent lecturer on several aspects of patent law for the American Inns of Court, bar associations, law schools, and others.  He has taught the doctrinal cours on patent law at DePaul U. College of Law.  He served on the Pattern Jury Instruction Committee of the Seventh Circuit subcommittee in preparing jury instructions for use in patent cases (rules adopted 2008). He worked on the committee which wrote local rules for use in patent cases at the NDIL (rules adopted 2009). He is a member of the bars of the States of New York and Illinois, and the USPTO.  He holds degrees in Physics (Polytechnic University, 1972, now part of NYU) and law (State University of New York, 1975, cum laude) and is listed in Who’s Who in the World, Illinois Superlawyers, and elsewhere.
