Joseph P. Tamburino

With over 25 years of experience as a criminal defender, Joe Tamburino has garnered recognition as one of the most effective criminal defense lawyers in the Twin Cities. His passion for excellence has earned him a listing in Super Lawyers® magazine for the past 15 years and has led him to achieve certification as a Board Certified Legal Specialist in Criminal Law by the Minnesota State Bar. Only 3% of all attorneys share in this impressive achievement.

Tamburino has effectively defended clients against a variety of criminal charges, including everything from assault, homicide, and DWI to white collar crimes and child pornography. He has tried over 85 cases in courts throughout the state and is licensed to practice in Minnesota and Wisconsin. He also is admitted to Federal Courts in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and North Dakota.

Tamburino received his education from New York University and the University of Minnesota Law School. After graduating with his law degree, he began his legal career in the Anoke County Attorney’s Office, where he served as a public defender. He cofounded Caplan & Tamburino Law Firm in 1997 and has since maintained his reputation as a prominent member of the legal community in Minnesota. The following year, Tamburino was named a Rising Star in Minnesota by Minnesota Law & Politics. This recognition is reserved for lawyers under 40 years of age who have practiced for less than 10 years.

In addition to his work with the firm, Tamburino is a frequent commentator on current trials and legal issues for Minneapolis Star Tribune, Minnesota Public Radio, Saint Paul Pioneer Press, KSTP TV, WCCO TV & Radio, and KSMP/Fox 9 TV. He shares his expertise by commenting on issues like alcohol-related accidents, criminal sexual conduct, homicides, international matters, campaign finance, and first amendment (free speech) cases.
