If you do not form a new entity (S corp, LLC, etc) then what you do with the bought assets will be deemed a business to which Schedule C of the 1040 applies. If you don't make money with the assets this is not a problem. But, if you do make money then you will want to form an entity. I have over ten years of experience in helping people form such entities and filing the necessary documents. You can call either me or another Minnesota attorney.
I recommend consulting with Herb Schechter at Minneapolis Portfolio Management.

It seems the question you are asking is whether one person claiming you as a dependent affects your income tax status. While the answer to this is yes, claiming you per food stamps looks not at the entire year but at a very specific period of time. It is quite possible that your mother may have supported you during that period and you still be your own dependent for the year as a whole.
