State v. Van Vonderen

A J. Williams

Case Conclusion Date:January 13, 2009

Practice Area:Criminal Defense

Outcome:Charges dropped on day of trial

Description:Brown County Sheriff's Deputy charged with Theft by False Representation. Deputy had surgery on his shoulder. County authorized FMLA. When a neighbor complained that the Deputy was doing activities at his house, investigators began to secretly film the deputy. Our investigation verified that the deputy was acting in accordance with doctor's orders. That he was actually doing everyday activities that the doctor had instructed him to do to help along his recovery. By presenting an aggressive defense and seeing through the tactics of not only a county prosecutor, but also internal affairs and state officials, I was able to keep my client from having his reputation soiled by an overeager prosecution.
