Getting a DUI charge is a very serious offense. It impacts you financially and emotionally and could affect your life for a long time, if not forever. The situation is especially bad when it's a second offense. Earlier this year I made a huge mistake by getting arrested and charged with a second DUI. Since Patrick Barone worked on my first case (with amazing results!),I contacted the Barone Defense Firm (BDF). I knew this was a serious situation and if anyone could help, it was Patrick Barone.
Since day 1, Patrick was very professional, kind, and understanding of my situation.Knowing how stressful a second DUI offense is, he was very supportive and patiently answered my many questions., Patrick was also very thorough explaining all of the legal aspects. One thing that I really appreciated was his honesty and directness. He was not one of those lawyers that minimize the cases and "promise" or "assure" you're going to get a specific outcome (charge reductions, case dismissals, etc.)
I think there might be other good lawyers that can take your case, however, something that sets Patrick apart is that he's really interested in the person, not just the client. What I mean is, he really tries to help you from a personal perspective to realize, or at least consider, if you have an alcohol or substance abuse problem. He also gives you suggestions on how to find guidance to address those issues. He doesn't look at you as just a client looking for legal help, but as a person that he sincerely wants to help. I find that really rare these days. Patrick is the best DUI lawyer you could hire. He has published two DUI books, teaches at a university and is very well respected in the courtroom.
Thanks to Patrick’s absolutely amazing job, last week I got the most incredible news I could have received. I feel very lucky and blessed, and feel like I got my life back! I will always be thankful to Patrick for all his hard work and for all the concepts and points of view he shared with me. And of course, I will always feel grateful to everybody at the BDF, for their professionalism, patience, and help, especially Christine and Sarah, who were very kind, understanding, and responsive.
If there's anyone out there going through this awful situation, I would strongly suggest contacting the BDF and get the best defense there is. You can be assured that they are going to fight for you legally and help you personally.

I totaled my car on the way back to Grand Valley from Rochester Hills during the first week of January. I let Pat know right away of the incident and court date. Since I live in Grand Rapids, it would have been really inconvenient for me to travel 2.5 hours just to go to a court date. Pat volunteered to go for me almost immediately. He also sent me periodic emails on how my case was going and was very easy to get a hold of if I ever had any questions. I ended up getting those points off my license. I would recommend him!!!

Working with Mr. Barone in a very difficult time in my life couldn't have concluded any better. His thorough and honest approach, despite my sometimes very dark moments, brought comfort and a fair resolution to my case. I considered him like a friend who brought comfort when I was in need.

Patrick consistently kept me uninformed on critical documents. My trial was delayed FIVE times to the point that the judge was exceptionally angry. Patrick did nothing to further my complex case, and his lack of communication and follow through was so abysmal the judge himself went on record to say he planned to find me guilty thanks to Patrick not filing critical documents on time on my behalf.
Because of Patrick's incompetence in representing me, and his angering of the judge, I finally decided to plead guilty after 9 months of delays. The outcome I received was something I could have achieved with a court-appointed lawyer for free. Instead I spent $18,000; yes 18 GRAND to ultimately plead guilty to something I didn't do.
I would not wish this lawyer on my worst enemy. If you are facing an OWI or DUI, do yourself a favor and avoid this *lawyer* at all costs.

When faced with the decision of who to hire as my attorney following my arrest for alleged OWI in Troy, I used various sources to make a decision, including AVVO, so want to provide the best insight I can to others who may find themselves in the same situation.
Selecting an attorney is not an easy choice, especially when you have to make a decision in a short period of time using limited information. I wanted to have the best possible representation for my personal situation and thus selected the Barone Defense Firm and Patrick personally to represent me. I work with many attorneys professionally and as such have an appreciation for a really good attorney versus many who put on a good face up front to loop you in and then abandon you to an associate or newer matters. Patrick truly is a great attorney and was by my side throughout the process.
Throughout the process, Patrick was very straightforward with me about the realities of my situation and the likely outcomes. His knowledge not only of the law, but the science and technical aspects of breath testing and other key areas specific to DUIs were very impressive. He had a great rapport with the judge, prosecutor and court staff. He and his team were communicative and understanding throughout the process and assisted me greatly with many administrative details that would have been an even greater burden without their assistance.
My case was ultimately dismissed and I am very thankful for Patrick and his team (especially Christine and Sarah) for all that they did throughout the duration of my case.

Patrick and his team did an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING job in handling my case. I am a relocated out of state person that is in Michigan for work. I encountered and absolutely devasting experience which was completely out of character for myself and needed to hire Patrick and his team for their services. I had numerous questions throughout my whole experience, which were always handled with complete honesty and professionalism. When it came time for my plea hearing, I knew that I was watching a true expert in his field as he spoke on my behalf to the judge. Thanks to Patrick and his team, I am able to start putting this experience behind me and moving on with life. Thanks a million Barone Defense firm.

I am offering this unsolicited testimonial on behalf of Patrick Barone, Esq, probably the best defendant DUI and OWI attorney in Michigan, and one of the best in the USA. His recent rating as super lawyer certainly confirms his status as an elite practitioner in this area.
As a former Federal attorney, I had not much experience with criminal law as I was involved with the Department of Health and Human Services concerning Social Security matters. However, on July 12, 2013 I found myself arrested for OWI in the Detroit Metropolitan area and spent 12 hours incarcerated before I was released the next morning. Being extremely claustrophobic and suffering from panic attacks, that time in a holding tank was undoubtedly the worst experience of my life. I blew .00 on the breathalyzer and blood was drawn on me as the arresting officer suspected I was under the influence of barbiturates or cocaine and I don't do drugs or drink alcohol. The officers told me the blood results would take 3 to 5 months to process and after 8 months when I heard nothing from the police I figured I was in the clear. Wrong! I went to my mail box in June 2014 and saw a letter from the Auburn Hills Police Department with informing me there was a warrant for my arrest for OWI.
I was panic stricken and did not go home that night to sleep for fear that the police were going to come to my house in the middle of the night to arrest me. On Monday I called a very famous and prominent defense lawyer that I had gone to law school with and he agreed to represent me for the arraignment. Things went well and a jury trial was requested, but as my girlfriend had also had this
That Sunday night I spent hours looking at defense specialists in Michigan for DUI and OWI and came across the ads for Patrick Barone, Esq., and all the information he had on his website for all the ramifications for my charge and similarly related other ones. The thing that impressed me the most was Patrick's statement that nobody who ever got off criminal charges like DUI or OWI ever complained about the fees that they paid for this to happen. Based upon this statement and his reputation as a super lawyer, I decided to switch lawyers and I am glad that I did.
I first met Patrick about a week after I had retained him at his office for an interview at which time he completely erased my fears and made me feel so much better and more comfortable. We spent about 90 minutes together and told me I had a very unique case as I did not drink or do drugs and most importantly he told me that he believed in me and my case and would see that through all of his efforts that justice would be done for me. He promised me he would go to the ends of the earth to defend me for he said he was a fighter and believed in my case and for me that was the clincher in knowing that I had made the right move in switching to Patrick.
If you believe that there is a difference between a Chevrolet and a Rolls Royce, or between McDonalds and a 5 star restaurant , or that some people in any profession rise to the top because of their ability and skill level, then you want the best and the best is Patrick Barone. I was lucky in that I had the opportunity to switch to Patrick before my case got going too far and that decision to come over to him probably was the smartest thing I ever did as an attorney myself. If you want the best and understand having the best in a courtroom advocating for you is priceless, then I strongly suggest you retain Patrick Barone for your attorney in his field of expertise. You will never regret having him standing side by side with you in the courtroom. NEVER!
