I focus my practice on serving the legal needs of new and established small to midsize businesses and their owners. I have counseled entrepreneurs in the creation of companies in a wide range of industries including technology, healthcare, entertainment, transportation, and real estate – to name a few.
As outside general counsel, I assist a number of companies with their everyday legal needs including the negotiation, drafting and review of routine and complex business agreements including franchise agreements; employment-related matters including drafting and enforcing restrictive covenants as well as the creation and implementation of company policies and procedures; and collection efforts. I devote a substantial portion of my practice to working with information technology (IT) companies and am experienced in handling the legal issues and business relationships that are unique to that industry.
I have assisted with the purchase and sale of businesses (both entity and asset only) and helped facilitate growth through venture capital investments. I offer my clients seasoned advice and guidance throughout all stages of the business life cycle including shepherding them through unfortunate but sometimes necessary business “divorces” and difficult “end of life” decisions. My practice is not limited to for-profit enterprises as I also serve as outside counsel to a local non-profit corporation and have assisted a number of others (local, national and international) with various legal issues.
Not only do I assist my business clients with their transactional needs, I also help them resolve business disputes and when necessary, prosecute and defend claims on their behalf in Indiana state and federal courts, including bankruptcy court. I have successfully represented clients in the Indiana Court of Appeals and Indiana Supreme Court.
In addition to my general business advising practice, I also routinely assist individuals and businesses with debt-related issues, including both informal workouts and bankruptcy. I am also one of only a few attorneys in the Indianapolis area who represents both employers and employees in unemployment benefit appeals proceedings before the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and its Unemployment Insurance Review Board.
Prior to joining Reichel Stohry LLP, I was Of Counsel for a mid-size general practice firm, and was also a founding and managing partner of a general business practice partnership in Indianapolis.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my wife, Elizabeth, serving at my church, volunteering with a number of community organizations, camping and playing flag football.
