Mark received a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Lourdes College, a Master of Science from Tiffin University, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Dayton School of Law.
Before attending law school, Mr. Deters was employed with the Ottawa Hills Police Department for nearly 10 years. Mr. Deters attended hundreds of hours of specialized law enforcement training. Some of his advanced law enforcement certifications include:

Mr. Deters was a police Field Training Officer during his years on the department, and he has extensive experience training both recruit and veteran police officers—specifically in DUI and OVI.
As a police officer, Mr. Deters testified in Court frequently in criminal, traffic, and DUI cases. Mr. Deters was awarded the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) TOP COP Award, seven years-in-a-row. Mr. Deters received a special honor by M.A.D.D. for achieving 189 DUI arrests during 2005. Mr. Deters made over 1,000 arrests during his law enforcement career, including over 670 DUI and OVI offenders. Mr. Deters also assisted in more than 2,000 DUI arrests by other officers.
Mr. Deters has extensive knowledge of DUI and OVI law, thanks to over thirteen years’ experience in law enforcement and DUI Defense. He has been certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) to instruct police officers on how to administer field sobriety tests.
Mr. Deters was certified by the Ohio Department of Health for over six years, as a Senior Operator on the BAC DataMaster Breath Test Machine. Mr. Deters personally performed more than 1,000 Breath Tests and Calibration Checks on the BAC DataMaster Breath Test machine. Mr. Deters was previously responsible for the care, maintenance, and calibration checks of the BAC DataMaster Breath Test at the police department.
During law school Mark won the Dayton Bar Association Moot Court Competition. Mark was then selected to compete in the National Entertainment Law Moot Court Competition at the Pepperdine University School of Law. Mark competed in oral argument rounds to panels of top Los Angeles Entertainment Law Attorneys.
Mark also gained academic recognition in law school by achieving the distinguished “CALI Awards” in Criminal Procedure and Cyberspace Law. He received those awards for earning the highest grade of all students in those classes.
Mark is a member of the Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, American Bar Association, Ohio Bar Association, Christian Legal Society, and the Dayton Bar Association, where he is a member of the Criminal Law Committee, Appellate Law Committee, and Young Lawyers Division.
Mark was selected by the Dayton Bar Association to participate in its inaugural Leadership Development Program for 2010-2011.
Outside of the office, Mark has been married to his wife, Kimberlee for over 10 years. They have three children: Joe, Courtney, and Jack. The Deters are Members of Kettering Assembly of God, and they are avid Snow Skiers.
