I am from Turkey, came to USA with J-1 visa. Then I decided to apply for H1B. The attorneys around New York, they ask crazy amounts of money. Then I found out JP, via AVVO. His reviews were great. Then I asked for service fee. It was much more affordable compare to other attorneys I have talked.

At first I was quite suspicious about the service quality, because if the fees are low, service quality suppose to be lower. But it was not like that, whenever I wrote him, he responded to me in a day, he always keep me informed. Right now, my H1b petition is not approved yet but I am %100 happy to work with him.

I forgot to tell, he managed successfully to fill and send my H1b forms in a couple weeks. I signed contract with him on early March, and he succeed to apply by 1 April.

Even though the attorney was remotely located (we were in different states) flying back and forth, he kept me informed of my case and the proceedings and he saw it through the entire process,

i have never met a lawyer who is very professional and knowledgeable as Atty. Sarmiento. He has been a blessing. I just recently had my H1B approved without any RFEs. I hired Atty. Sarmiento (JP) for assistance in handling my deferred action application. From the get go he was very responsive and courteous when responding to my inquiries which I had plenty of! My e-mails tended to be wordy, which I genuinely felt guilty about, but JP still managed to get to the gist of my questions and answer them to my satisfaction. He's easy to work with and is quite friendly, helping alleviate some of the anxiety surrounding the process. I highly recommend JP and his staff for any immigration work. He was recommended to me by a close friend for handling my wife's immigration from China, and I am very glad I took the advice. It was as painless as anything requiring an attorney could be. During her final interview in GuangZhou I had the opportunity to stand in line and talk to a bunch of people who attempted China -> US immigration by themselves, with no attorney, and some of the horror stories that I heard shocked me. Don't try to go it alone, its not worth the pain. The problem is that the actual process doesn't turn out to be anything like the application makes it look.

We only had 1 little hiccup, and it was all my fault. At the begging JP told me what documents I would need. It went something like, "You need X. Bring Y.... they probably won't even look at it, but if they ask for it & you don't have it, it will be trouble. They say Z is 'optional', but you won't get the visa without it." I didn't bring 1 year of tax returns for a year that I had not filed any taxes. JP told me that it might be trouble, and suggested that I late file an empty tax return for that year and bring that.... but I didn't... and it ended up costing us about a 3 week delay. It all worked out in the end, but I wish I had just listened to him the first time. There is no substitute for the experience these guys have in actually doing this over and over.

I hired JP Sarmiento and Glen Yu with the Sarmiento Immigration Law firm to help me apply for a J-2 waiver of foreign residency requirement (dependent turning 21), so I could consequently file for an H1-B work visa. Previously, my employer and I spoke with an established attorney firm in town on referral (I work in a large city in the Midwest), and found that they were not knowledgeable and were unable to cater to my situation in the least (although they tried to bluff through it). Luckily, I was able to find Mr. Sarmiento’s exceptional firm through research, contacted them and started working with them right around New Year’s. By early January all the required documents were filed, and by the end of January I received a favorable recommendation from the DoS. Attorney JP Sarmiento and his law firm Sarmiento Immigration is absolutely the best immigration attorney you can find in the United States. We had a complicated case (see details below) and Mr. Sarmiento handled it with such expertise that the result exceeded all our expectations. He is not only an expert at the laws regarding immigration, but also an excellent, professional, courteous, and honest attorney.

I was impressed by Mr. Sarmiento’s knowledge of the immigration laws, his excellent communication skills (I always got a response from him in less than 24 hours), and his understanding of our particular case. He made us feel that we were his only clients. He created a strong cover letter for the DHS and Immigration Court, and knew exactly which documents needed to be attached to provide them sufficient proof that my wife’s case deserved a favorable exercise of discretion. By law, DHS is not under any requirement to open old ‘granted withholding of removal’ cases. That is, they can deny your case for any reason, and don’t even have to give you a reason. Therefore, presenting a strong argument is essential and Mr. Sarmiento accomplished this.

About our case: I am a U.S. citizen and my wife was on “granted withholding of removal” status when we got married. When we wanted to adjust her status to a Permanent Resident based on our marriage, we started researching attorneys. After talking to at least a dozen attorneys, I realized that very few had experience with situations where it had been more than 90 days since the withholding of removal was granted. Then, I came across Mr. Sarmiento’s blog/website and found out that he had experience with such cases. I contacted him via e-mail, explaining our situation and asked him for advice and a quote. I was pleasantly surprised when I received a thorough response from him in less than 24 hours, explaining everything in detail. Keep in mind that some of the attorneys wanted $75 to $100 fee for an initial consultation before they even started talking to us. At that time, against my better judgment, I decided to retain another attorney just because she was based out of our city and Mr. Sarmiento was in Cleveland. I thought having a local attorney would be better in terms of communication. That was a big mistake. Long story short, after several hundred dollars in attorney fees and $1070 in USCIS fees, our case was denied because of poor advice by our attorney (USCIS didn’t have jurisdiction over our case, and the attorney should have known this!)

That is when I contacted Mr. Sarmiento again and retained him to represent us. The difference between him and our previous attorney was clear from the beginning. Mr. Sarmiento responded to my e-mails right away, and always provided clear, detailed explanations. He told us how to terminate the proceedings in court so that USCIS will have jurisdiction over my wife’s case. He guided us to file a Joint Motion to Reopen with the Department of Homeland Security. He followed up with them every two weeks, and sent me an update, without me even asking for it. When the DHS didn’t take any action for a couple of months, Mr. Sarmiento filed a Sua Sponte Motion to Reopen with the Immigration Court. At the same time, DHS agreed to join our motion to reopen (therefore we didn’t need to pursue the sua sponte motion). The Immigration Judge reopened the case, and at the same time terminated proceedings without us having to go to court. Now my wife is able to adjust status by filing an I-485 with the USCIS since they do have jurisdiction now.

Thanks to Mr. Sarmiento, my wife can finally become a United States citizen. I highly recommend Sarmiento Immigration Law Firm and would definitely contact them again if a family member or friend is looking for an immigration attorney.

I recently contacted Mr. Sarmiento via email after finding him on Avvo. He was nice enough to take his time and respond to my correspondences and provide me with all the necessary information that I required. First of all, let me thank Mr. Sarmiento and his team for such the outstanding work he has done on my wavier, which got an approval. Thank you very much.
I am from New York and I had a lawyer who I paid a lot of money to handle my I601 wavier case. The lawyer was terrible. When he prepared my argument I read it and told him it was not a good case but he did not listen he told me he know what he was doing so I went along. He went along and file the case it was denied. I was very bewildered because I thought that I will be deported. I tried to talk to the lawyer and they did not take my case seriously. They told me I just had to appeal the decision to the AAO, which was very expensive, so I did. It has been over two years now and I have finally received a letter from the AAO stating that the case was filed to the wrong office. We stumbled for quite a long time figuring out how to arrange my situation: former J-2, divorced from J-1 (with whom the contact is absolutely zero, therefore no documents possible from him), with a overstayed visa, and married to a U.S. Citizen, looking for a waiver requested by the USCIS to the 2-year foreign residence requirement under section 212(e) that I was subject to.
We initially contacted just one lawyer we found online that specializes on hard J waiver cases. His fees were not very affordable for us and even though he was very helpful, at the end he didn't seem to have full knowledge of the full range of options and ways to help my case. After realizing this, we decided to look online for more options and testimonials, looking for experiences similar to mine and other lawyers. In this search, we bumped into a success story in a case very very similar to mine in their website, the lawyer firm that conducted the case was in fact Sarmiento's. We contacted him and initially we were surprised that he DOES NOT charge for an unlimited time telephone consultation!, which was unprecedented for us. After this, at the beginning we were skeptical due first to his very affordable fees (compared to the first lawyer we contacted) and convenient choices for method of payment, and second, the apparent simplicity of the proposed solution. But as we decided to go with them, we started to realize we could have a serious chance to solve my otherwise complicated and almost hopeless situation. They were very diligent and prompt for questions, answers and filing the paperwork. They kept the burden, if any, to the necessary minimum. The final happy note came when after only a little bit more than 2 months of initial contact and after 40 days of filing the application, it was approved!
