I retained Sean Richardson to handle an order of protection and a divorce. He delayed the filing, allowing my husband to file first, which allowed the other side to persuade the judge that I had only filed the order of protection because I was angry that my husband had filed the divorce. He overstated his experience level, and I found out to late he had never handled a divorce and knew less than I did about family law. Having consulted several more experienced attorneys (that I unfortunately could not afford to retain), I knew what needed to be filed but Sean refused to do the appropriate filings and instead wrote several petitions which were unnecessary and which the judge would not accept, but he charged me for writing them anyway. He was claiming that he was charging higher than his usual retainer because he would be consulting with a more experienced attorney, however when I attempted to contact this attorney she apparently knew nothing of it. He waited til the night before my hearing to prepare any documents, and even though I had left a file with all the information he needed, he continued to text and call me the night before the case because he had left it at his office and didn't want to go in to get it. Eventually he texted me at approximately 2am to tell me he was withdrawing from my case because I was "micromanaging" his work (correcting errors like my child's name, and the grounds for divorce!) He showed up for court late and appeared to be hungover. I had requested he at least wait until after the hearing to file his withdrawal but instead, it's the first thing he said in front of the court, which seriously damaged by credibility with the judge. He did not inform me of the protocol for transcripts so we did not get a transcript of the case (which kept my next attorney from being able to correct a lot of the mistakes Sean made) and he failed to file the court decision following. After I retained the next attorney he refused to provide my file, insisting I owed him more money (than what we had agreed upon), until my new attorney had to let him know that was illegal. Truly a displeasure to work with, and harmed my case a thousand times more than he possibly could have helped it. Save yourself, do not hire Sean Richardson.
