About Me

I am an attorney with and Shareholder of the firm, Wilmer & Lee, and a resident attorney in the firm’s Huntsville, Alabama office. I am also the 138th President of the Alabama State Bar (July 2014-July 2015).

I attended the University of Alabama and the University of Alabama School of Law, where I graduated cum laude. After graduation, I served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps, from 1995 to 2000, when I returned to Alabama to join the North Alabama law firm Wilmer & Lee.

I have a diverse litigation practice, have tried numerous trials in various state and federal courts, and have argued cases before the Fifth and Eleventh U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeal and the Florida 1st District Court of Appeals. I am admitted to practice in Alabama and Tennessee, as well as various federal courts, including the United States Court of Federal Claims.

From July 2004 to July 2013, I served on the Alabama State Bar’s Board of Bar Commissioners. During that time, I served on numerous committees and task forces, including for many years on the MCLE Commission and on one of the Alabama State Bar’s Disciplinary Panels. In July 2014, I became President of the Alabama State Bar.

I am a Fellow in the Alabama Law Foundation and the American Law Foundation; and I am dedicated to Access to Justice and Pro Bono issues, and issues facing Veterans. Governor Robert J. Bentley appointed me to Council of the Alabama Law Institute in June 2011, and I had the pleasure of working on the committee that drafted the recently passed update to Alabama's law concerning non-compete agreements.

I also enjoy serving my local community.  I have served the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association on numerous committees. I am a member of the Downtown Rotary Club. I served on the board of directors of The Arts Council.  I served for seven years on the Board of Directors of the National Children’s Advocacy Center, concluding my service as its president. I have also served as president of the Downtown Forty-Seven, on the Advisory Board of the Sparkman Center Boys and Girls Club, and on the Board of the Old Town Historic District Association.
