About me

I understand that each client is unique.  I understand the importance of listening to my clients to determine the best way to help with their legal problems. No two clients are alike and estate planning and probate work involve very personal factors. My focus is to help find practical, but thorough solutions to my client's needs.

To best serve my clients, I put a high priority on education. The law is constantly changing and I believe an attorney's education does not end with law school - it is just beginning.  I continue to look for opportunities to learn from others, to learn by teaching, and to participate in professional organizations that include other professions.  Through ongoing education, it is my hope to find and implement the best strategies to help clients avoid problems, and to solve those that have already occurred.

I became board certified by the Florida Bar in the area of Wills, Trusts and Estates in 2010 after completing an extensive application process, peer review, and testing. I am one of only five attorneys in Bradenton who are board certified in this area. I have earned an "AV - Preeminent" peer review rating from my peers through the Martindale-Hubbell rating service. I am the only Manatee County attorney elected to the American College of Trust an Estate Counsel, a national organization of approximately 2,500 trust and estate attorneys who focus on education and service to the profession.

I have served as an adjunct faculty member at Manatee Community College, teaching real estate courses in the Paralegal Studies Program; instructor for the Attorneys' Title Insurance Fund Real Estate Paralegal Certification Program; an author for continuing legal education seminar materials for The Fund; and have authored written materials and lectured at continuing legal education seminars for the National Business Institute, the Manatee County Estate Planning Council, the Venice Estate Planning Council, The Manatee County Bar, the Sarasota County Bar, and the Florida Bar on the subjects of Estate Planning and Probate.

I am a member of the Florida Bar's Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section.  Within the section I have actively participated in many committees: Probate Law and Procedure Committee (past co-vice chair); Homestead Problems Study Committee; Ad Hoc Committee on Estate Planning Attorney Conflicts of Interest; Wills, Trusts and Estates Certification Review Course Committee (chair) and the Florida Bar Journal Committee (co-editor). I am also a member of The Florida Bar Elder Law Section; The American Bar Association and its Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section; the Manatee County Bar Association, its Probate and Trust Law Section and Board of Directors (past president); and the Estate Planning Council of Manatee County.  I am a  member of the the Florida Bar Probate Rules Committee, serving as chair for the 2010-2011 year; the Florida Bar Special Needs of Children Committee and past member of the American Inns of Court, Manatee Chapter.

I grew up in Bradenton and graduated from Manatee High School in 1982. I attended Maryville College in Tennessee where I played football for four years, maintained a Presidential Scholarship for academics, and earned the David C. King History Scholarship. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Maryville College, I attended the University of Tennessee College of Law, graduating in May of 1990. While in law school, I enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and served for over 6 years. I returned to Bradenton after law school.  I live in Bradenton with my wife and children.

My community involvement has included the Hernando DeSoto Historical Society, the Board of Directors of the Manatee County Boys and Girls Clubs, coaching Pop Warner football and various sports at the Manatee County Family YMCA, and teaching at the St. Joseph Catholic Church’s Parrish School of Religion.

I do not solicit or request AVVO endorsements from my peers or clients.
