    Review from opposing counsel

I have had the pleasure of having several cases against Valerie. She is professional, knowledgable, and a zealous advocate for her clients. I have referred her several cases that I was not able to take on myself. I would highly recommend Valerie to any new client.

    Valerie K Downing Lil' Bulldog!

Valerie was recommended to me by my Pastor after I spoke with him in regards to my situation. (divorce)., and I hired her based on my confidence in his judgement. She has done an exemplary job in handling not only the divorce, but also several other cases that have arisen concerning issues related to the complexity of the divorce case. Since I hired her I have found that she is not only a caring, hard working and efficient attorney, but a wonderful mother and extremely compassionate individual in her personal affairs.Since hiring her I have become not just a client, but a friend as well. Having dealt with several attorneys (including my own Brother in Law) over my 70 years, I've found that Valerie possesses an honest and passionate dedication to not only her work but to her clients as well. I've come to admire the passion and diligence she has shown in handling her responsibilities and concern for me as a client, something I've found very rare in the law profession in general. I have recommended Valerie to friends, including my Dr. and others and have heard nothing but good things in reference to her representation of them. I will continue to do so as my respect for Valerie not only as an attorney, but as a person and mother to her 2 daughters. She also has an efficient and responsive staff, and as I stated before, I will not hesitate to recommend her.

    Save Yourself and your Money.

I hired this lawyer over a year ago to handle a very one sided custody case. In my case, the mother of my child has upwards of 5 DCF reports, multiple felony charges for possession of Pain Pills w/o a prescription (one of which while she was with my baby), and multiple failed trips to rehab, just to name a few...and yet, here we are, a year and over $10K later, and STILL no final judgement.
Even after getting full parental rights of my child through the judges temporary order in our first trial, which was an open and shut, I still don't recommend her services. It's been 4 months since that temporary order went into place and we still don't even have a trial date set. Instead, I see my bill grow with no results.
She failed to return calls and emails in a timely manner for me as well, often taking around 3-4 weeks to respond. And when she did respond, she wouldn't address the actual questions I had, but charged me for her very wordy, long winded email responses. I don't recommend her services to anyone.

Valerie Kaye Downing’s response: “Regardless of what an individual may claim regarding the other party in litigation it still must be proven in Court through civil process which is not an overnight process nor is it "quick" or "open and shut". The other party in this particular matter hired an attorney immediately and aggressively defended her position. It is commonly perceived by people that issues are "open and shut" but when you are trying to limit or completely eliminate a parent's contact with their child it is never and never should be "open and shut". This individual is angry about things being delayed although against my advice he insisted upon mediation once in March and again in June. We were at docket sounding for trial in August and the other party switched attorneys at the last second. This is a common delay tactic and her attorney will be granted a continuance in order to prepare for trial. I just heard from the JA in his case that the case is set on the November docket sounding. How any of this could be attributed to my mishandling of the case is beyond me. The author of this complaint does not understand the process as we never had a "trial" and he always had "full parental rights". I was successful in acquiring a temporary order on his behalf which provided that the child have limited supervised visits with mom and also placed responsibilities upon mom to help the situation between her and the child. There has never been an instance when it took 3 weeks to respond to a call and obviously nothing makes this individual happy. A "long winded email" would be for the benefit of educating the client on the status and process due to the nature of the question. This individual wrote this comment after I told him I could no longer be his attorney. I wish him and his family the best of luck and I hope he is able to better communicate with any future attorneys.”

    UNETHICAL

This attorney will take your money and never return your phone calls. She does not provide her clients with forwarding contact information after she moved offices, she refuses to return months worth of phone calls and e-mails. She is unethical and incompetent, it is only a matter of time before this attorneys scandals catch up to her and her license is taken.

Will Not Handle Cases Against Allstate

Mrs. Downing was refered to me by a Pain Management Doctor after I was involved in a car wreck and was gung ho until she found out that the insured carried Allstate Insurance then she would not handle the case. Mrs. Downing is like most Personal Injury Lawyers wants a quick buck at the expense of the client without really having to work for it. If you want the best then I would not reccomend this Attorney because she will only take your case if it does not involve a fight.

    A Grateful Client

Ms. Downing assisted me during a very difficult time, without over billing me. I was very happy with her personal confidence in my case and also with her caring office staff.

In my opinion, Ms. Downing would be an outstanding trial attorney, she is "quick on her feet".
