David S. Cohen, Esq. is the General Counsel for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Tampa, Florida. David drafts and negotiates contracts with sponsors, vendors, employees, broadcast licensees and Suiteholders. He provides strategic legal and business advice in many areas and oversees many organization wide issues.
Prior to joining the Buccaneers, David served in a similar capacity with Angels Baseball LP for 9 years. David also provided legal assistance to AM830 KLAA, the Angels flagship radio station.
Prior to moving to the front office, David spent 9 years working as an Athletic Trainer in the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, and Montreal Expos organizations. He is licensed to practice law in California and is a National Athletic Trainers Association Certified Athletic Trainer. Cohen was honored by his peers in the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society as the "2001 Minor League Baseball Athletic Trainer of the Year".
David earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and Masters Degree in Community Health Education from West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia. Cohen also earned a Juris Doctor from California Western School of Law in San Diego, California. He is also a graduate of the Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau Scout Development Program.
David serves on the executive board of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Sports & Entertainment Law Committee. He also served as a board member and Vice-President of the ACC's Southern California Chapter. He also held leadership positions in the ABA Tort, Trial, and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS). He served as the Student Liaison to the TIPS Council (2002-2004), Chair of the TIPS Self Insurers and Risk Managers Committee (2006-2008) and TIPS Task Force on Outreach to Law Students (2007-2009). David is also a member of the ABA Forum on Entertainment & Sports Industries and Sports Lawyers Association.
