Here is the story,
I will start by saying that Maria Lescano is a super nice lady. Very courteous and polite. I give credit where credit is due. So let me tell you what happen. In my court case, a guardian ad-litem was asked for. I particularly picked Maria Lescano because I thought she would hold fair to what was conspiring with my newborns case. When she was assigned, she was shortly paid to do the work. If you want to be a guardian ad-litem then you should realized that you are playing with the lives of not only children but the parents involved. On this notion, I met with Miss Lescano. We had a good conversation but my situation was very complex and not enough time was available to finish my closing arguments. I explained to her in an email about my life so she would understand the kind of person I am and have been. During the duration if the 3 months, contact with Miss Lescano was close to impossible. She waited till the last minute to talk to a few of the people I gave her a day before she went into court on my visitation hearing. She made claims that I should seek visitation only infront of a mental health professional. Her claims were based on little research on my side and research on the mothers side. Further more contact with her had gotten to the point of nearly impossible. There is no way to investigate a case and represent a child when you are so busy that you can not open your time restraints to allow proper investigation. Months have passed and I have missed so much time with my son. In the end of the day I just gave up with her. It became a lost cause to communicate. My frustration as a concerned and caring parent has led me down a road of disgust, distrust and ultimately made me want to abandon the situation like a cancer. However, the corruption in the legal system and the way people in the system including Miss Lescano handle things as far as timely investigating properly is absurd. You cant proficiently work a case under these kinds of constraints. That being said I will explain why my scoring was as it was.
1. Trustworthy - Average - This is because I entrusted her to do her research in a timely fashion before my 3 month court trial. Last min phone calls just don't work, she should have visited my home or arranged meetings sooner then she did with me. She also refused to read all the case evidence that was important to what exactly was happing.
2. Responsive - Poor - This was an easy one to determine because first hand I can say, unreturned phone calls, calls to the office she was always busy, email responses came days later. I don't blame her for having a lot of work and being busy, but too busy effects the over all work and out come on important client matters.
3. Knowledgeable - Average - This was a hard one to decide, from what I have seen and heard her speak in court, I had to give an average rating because I saw nothing that would put it above average. Her case knowledge was poor as her research was incomplete. It was an important step in my case and her coming unprepared with a full investigation only hurt the child and the situation involved. I don't feel that she should be taking on this kind of work if you cant finish it timely. Knowledge is important in solving high conflict cases. So if you come unprepared with non complete knowledge and investigation to gain such, what would that say about you. So yes I scored Average as a lot of attorneys tell their clients one thing and do another. I would classify this in that category.
4. Kept me informed - Poor - This rating is along side with responsiveness. Through out the process, I wasn't kept well informed. I had to chase the information and chase her. I am not into cat and mouse scenarios.
I don't think Miss Lescano is a bad person, I think she wants to mean well but she has well overwhelmed her self with work.
If she takes your case, their might be a good chance it wont be worked with the upmost care.
This is true review
Maria is a great lady, she is very informative and attentive to needs of the client.
Maria has a great personality and is very compassionate in all aspects of her work, I fully trust her and highly recommend her services.
Maria represented me during my divorce case; I walked into her office without any knowledge of the law, my rights and obligations. She made complex matters understandable without being condescending. I had a quite complex case that was resolved in a mediation in short 9hrs in 1 day thanks to her.
Maria is very professional, sharp and knowledgeable, I can not thank her enough for her hard work and not letting me make regrettable mistakes.
Her fees are more than reasonable and She is a very pleasant and wise person to work with.
Make sure to get a weekly or biweekly statement of the services rendered during that time period. Do this to keep track of all expenses and time investments so there is no confusion months into the process or when it is over. Get the agreement to provide such documentation in writing as a part of her retainer. She is worth the cost....really. Remember ANY attorney is a partner. Do your own homework. It is still your decision what path you need to take. Seriously consider the recommendation for 24 hours if possible. It will save you a lot of money that you work very hard to get in the first place.
